AMD today announced the Radeon VII (Radeon Seven) graphics card, implementing the world's first GPU built on the 7 nm silicon fabrication process. Based on the 7 nm "Vega 20" silicon with 60 compute units (3,840 stream processors), and a 4096-bit HBM2 memory interface, the chip leverages 7 nm to dial up engine clock speeds to unprecedented levels (above 1.80 GHz possibly). CEO Lisa Su states that the Radeon VII performs competitively with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card. The card features a gamer-friendly triple-fan cooling solution with a design focus on low noise. AMD is using 16 GB of 4096-bit HBM2 memory. Available from February 7th, the Radeon VII will be priced at USD $699.

Update: We went hands on with the Radeon VII card at CES.

Damn, please be true... I just hope it also beats the RTX 2080 in price. HBM is expensive though...

Why 60 CU instead of 64 CU? AMD giving themselves wiggle room in terms of manufacturing? Or was it designed with 60 from the start to make room for more memory controllers?

An over-clocked, die-shrunk Vega 64 with less CU cores? Conceivably they could annihilate the RTX2080 on pricing.

It is the same chip so really, they can afford to keep the price down. But I fear UK pricing to be between 500-600 pounds, when really, for a die shrink it should be comparable to the Vega 64.

EDIT - just saw pricing - designed to compete on price with RTX 2080. Damn. Dropped ball right there.

You can find a 2080 at $599?
It's £689 for cheapest in UK and we've got our hefty life-saving tax (20%) in that price. It'll be £700+ in UK.

UK to US tax-free conversion makes the RTX 2080 about $740

"Performs competitively" in underdog parlance doesn't mean it beats the competition, it means if offers like 90% of the performance.
Could still be competitive, depending on pricing *cough*HBM*cough*. But AMD has just admitted they can't touch Nvidia's best this generation either. Scratch that, I just saw this is just Vega 20.

Vulkan and strange brigade, why would anyone play that game anything else than DX12 renderer. But I don't blame them using that game to prove Vulkan power, I doubt performance difference would have been rosy for them on Wolf2...

I thought there would be no 7nm consumer graphics cards from amd this year and they would be focused on the gpgpu market, still if amd has anything to compete with rtx 2080 then that in itself is an achievement, now Dr Su where the hell is the ryzen 2 announcement pleaseeeee

Damn it's looking like the RX 590 was a foreshadowing of the pricing structure AMD has decided to take against Nvidia; keep prices comparable to comparable performance. This might hurt AMD more than make them competitive in the long term.

Why 60 CU instead of 64 CU? AMD giving themselves wiggle room in terms of manufacturing? Or was it designed with 60 from the start to make room for more memory controllers?
Yes. And perhaps 4 more CU's did'nt weight up against performance, power or archieved clock-speeds. They put the best performing chips always in enterprise market. Gamers basicly get the chips that where not suitable for enterprise for whatever reason.

16GB seems a bit too much; but on the other hand i think it was more cheaper then go for the 8GB route as it requires a change into the interposer. Imo future proof video card with 16GB of ram!

Is'nt 2.4Ghz Boost state a bit over the top? That's fast for a vega.

$699 for hbm and performance equal to rtx 2080, i guess that is a yes for me, now the question is power consumption.
