AMD GPU 6000 series owner should avoid the latest driver from december 22

*4 guys walk into a repair shop with cracked GPU dies*

The internet: "AMD is LITERALLY trying to DESTROY YOUR PC with DANGEROUS drivers!!!!!! Return your RDNA2 card NOW!!!!"

When you put it that way it sounds like a clandestine tactic by GPU rivals.

I had a suspicion this was just FUDposting since the beginning.

Well if we look past fanboyism its nice that he did a shout out - better safe than sorry and his actions deserve better praise than calling it clickbait - I would recommend him any day.

One thing that could be sound advice based on the latest upgrade is when you by a GPU let it come up to room temps before installing it and if theres high humidity make sure its dried out

If he had asked the necessary questions right from the start and did more research before posting a video that - in the end - did turn out as being completely wrong, I would have agreed.

Now the first video can be seen either as a good example of what chaos influencers can create or even how fake news are created and how they get spread. Just take this thread with almost 200 replies on a topic that should have been titled: "Don't buy cheap mining cards", "Caution when buying used hardware" or even "Don't put hardware under extreme temperature stress!" instead of what it is.

In my opinion he seems to be quite competent in what he does normaly - repairing graphic cards - but he's a bad journalist and I stay with my opinion that he wanted to and did create attention with his first click-baity video. The - you could call it harsh - criticism is well deserved.

PS: This did even spread to JTC covering the topic - which has a much larger audience. This did cause to much damage, just because someone did not finish digging before releasing his findings.

Edit: I have to admit to having been quite harsh on this topic and I still believe the criticism towards KrisFix and you the OP was/is deserved but on the other hand criticism should also be constructive so I want to finish this topic by giving some advice how to handle electronic/electric devices in cold regions/seasons: Let just delivered parts rest for at least a few hours at room temperature before putting them to use. This will give the parts the time they need to acclimatize and for dew/condensate to vanish.

Jensen must be rubbing his hands right now because of the fallout from this.

Yeah, the damage is already done and the clickbait websites already got their clicks.

It was hitting 80C out the box. With a little undervolt and fan curve adjustment, now its at 69C in CoD. I've got some Kryonaut I wanted to use up. It hits 2.5GHz, but it is air cooled.
IT'S STILL AMD baby, so gotta accept 80-s instead of 70-s on team green lmfao.

Yeah same here i keep mine running due to other parts on the card. so at idle the run no higher than 500rpm.

It got it's hottest when i was seeing if the card would crash with the AMD stress and hit 3001MHz with 1070mV +20 and was using 325w and still only 68 on the hot spot although a little unstable.

Temps seem to be stable so i am happy.

you have a 3 ghz 6950 xt at 54 celsius??? wtf.... 67 celsius junction???? are you under custom loop water?

Nope, XFX air cooler. Shame i had enough of waiting for XFX's 7900XFX or i would of got that as that looks even better.

Nope, XFX air cooler.

my 6800 xt msi trio does 2500 core and 94 celsius junction and 68 core temp.

i haven't tried a repaste yet though, that might fix it. damn you have nice temps...

I had to put this out there,I cant remember where I saw it,but last month or so there was a story about when you googled AMD drivers, the first link was not one to AMD but looked like it,I just wander?

That's entirely possible given that google can insert ads before the first actual result and it wouldn't be the first time said inserted ad is meant to mislead people. Google doesn't vet every ad and likely doesn't care if one slips through the cracks, they get their money either way and it's not like customers can switch to another search provider.

Linux Mint is really polished these days, and so is Firefox and DuckDuckGo (it actually searches better than Google does these days, used not to be the case). I honestly have no need for Windows or Google ever again outside of a handful of games.

Reminds me of that derbaur dude at this rate. Its why I buy my stuff and do my own testing.

Yes it seems that everyone likes to over react before the facts are out these days. Although derbaur was right about there being a fault though.

But seems like people like throwing shit and see if it sicks attitude though.

Yeah but he blew the fault out of proportion by sticking his sphincter out on it.

TLDR 1: Improper storage can kill electronics due to vapour condensation on critical parts.
TLDR 2: Don't buy a graphics card from a crypto miner.

Thanks for the video. :)

JTC parroted this as well (without the full picture)? Jesus Christ, what a cesspool Youtube IT media is turning into. :shadedshu:

There is not much of a difference at all and why should they change a cooler, that was already good enough to keep the 6950XT at bay when the new card is more energy efficient and comes with lower transient spikes.

Jumping to conclusions before getting facts is never good.

Meh it's just as efficient if not more, just that it can be pushed more.

Which would give longer lifetime for me as i don't change cards all that often.

Other youtubers already picked up on this dumb rumor and churned out clickbait videos misinforming people. Why would you even make such a dumb statement that drivers are killing cards in the first place with so little information to go off ? Especially as a repair shop when you know that it's much more likely that some miner has just dumped a bunch of duds on you trying to get them in working order to put them on sale.

Sometimes I do wonder if AMD is just really unlucky with these conspiracy stories magically just popping out of nowhere but it does make me question if it really is just coincidence.

so gotta accept 80-s instead of 70-s on team green lmfao.
As if that means anything.

Basic electronics knowledge and user experience was needed to avoid the clickbait about this supposedly "faulty driver" topic...

It isn't these conspiracy theories that surprise me the most, but the amount of attention they get from other, quite reputable Youtubers. They claim to be all for the audience, but it's rather all for the views, it seems.

I'm less inclined to think it was an act of malice on the YouTuber's part when he put out the first video. It seems to be moreso "I have to inform people of the problem!" and "I have to get this out NOW to get views!", which seems to be a major problem thanks to YouTube's creator culture. I could be wrong because I'm not familiar with his content myself but I will say that as a first encounter he's certainly managed to erode my trust in anything he says from this point onward.

The damage has been done unfortunately. Hopefully it hasn't put too many people off their potential upgrades.

I'm inclined to think that the whole Youtuber creator culture is wrong. People will listen to new sensational bad news whether it's true or not, so the worse you can make something sound, the more people will watch and the more money you'll make. Facts don't matter anymore which makes me sad.

I'm equally disappointed in JTC for parroting all these recent bad news while adding his own made-up nonsensical bits to the story.
