AMD In for Total Restructuring, Executive Layoffs at Hand

No way 10% are only executives. This is bad news for many families.

Now that's news enough to. Turn my stomache. Happy holidays amd. Workers and families.......

because if it were just executives no families would be affected?

"executives" in general are not evil. i get the point you are making but being a white collar worker instead of blue doesn't mean you are screwing the blue collar workers over for profit. not saying it doesn't happen, just saying to assume that it is the case is disingenuous.

Point taken. Corp. Executives often lave with severence packages that would could cover the salaries of several blue collar workers. The immediate impact is different for someone living pay check to pay check.

keyword often, i'd be careful about how general you make the statement.

still, you make a very important point - and i do agree with the sentiment :)

They are already a shadow of their former selves on the CPU side of things. They can't fall much farther. If this effects the quality of their GPUs, I'm gonna be pissed. Hopefully Rory knows what he's doing.
AMDs new CEO won't let that happen he WILL force AMD to succeed just as he did with his previous company as CEO.

It would be nice if you were right, but if he's dumb enough to let the guy go that made Eyefinity and successfully kept it secret the whole time it was in development, he's already screwing up imho.

Time will tell I guess, but the first cuts I would have made would be cutting anybody in charge of the Bulldozer mess. Why cut the only people that are successfully doing their job?

Hopefully AMD comes back to life with a strong fight.

Eyefinity guy???.....NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!1!!!1!

I forsee bad. Times for gfx cards as focus is shift to apus:shadedshu

Such is the future.......

And you posted your objection some time AFTER the official AMD notice was put up along with Rory's edict....so save the sanctimony and put the effort into comparing time stamps on the articles and your post (Here's the easy version)
In fact, the story went from being "rumour" to "news" on THIS thread three hours before you posted - let alone the Icrontic story I linked to earlier.

BTW: Nice MS Paint skills. Heavy meds uh?

WTF are talking about?

Even now if i click the source that btarunr link in this thread (post#1) i still get the exact same page that i was before (same pic i posted) see no update on this page or the source link

I know it is not a rumor anymore but btarunr should change in link source so something more official/update...

About my MS paint skill... i've got none , i am using a mouse to circle the words that's all , not easy when using a mouse...

You know what? I think he left on his own, probably didn't like where the company was heading or something. I also think this new CEO may be good for AMD, but he better dam well fix the Desktop department for the better. I rather have choice than none.

You and me both. Hopefully PD will prove me wrong and AMD can still release a competitive CPU. I already have the board for it if they can. I'm just not going to get my hopes up too high.

Sorry Intel only hires real 'intelligent' people

since when?

Heres is a funny joke for you.

Put HD 3000 graphics on the overclocking chips, and HD 2000 grpahics on the ones most people will actually buy (at not much less cost in price)

This company needs no introduction, 1st in sales, last in your hearts.... Intel!!

so we are running 32nm pentium 3s now with 4 cores and hyperthreading that took 10 years to fix. they tried (and failed) to make a viable IGP, so integrated it on CPU die, and neutered it for the common man, and beefed it up for the enthusiast users, that neither wants nor needs the power consumption or wasted die space on a video chip that is capable of playing angry birds.

Sorry, Intel is far from intelligent. Like all megacorps they got where they are buy being underhanded and sneaky and evil. now that they rule the roost, they control the market and whether they have the superior product or not, they have so much of the market, it will appear that way.

I am not a big corp hater, but I do understand you do not become number one by being a nice guy with a better product. You get there by being devious and underhanded no matter if your product is better or worse. Because we as consumers are stupid.

What am I talking about?
Mmmm...lets see...
I see bta's story. "Whoa! that looks heavy, think I'll try to find out a bit more"
...quick Google, lo and behold- "rumour" is now fact from multiple sources including the company itself and multiple independant articles including Rory Read's announcement- in fact, at this point just Googling "AMD" gives the same story from the company viewpoint, the various tech sites, and the financial sector.
Now I have a more complete knowledge of the story.
A little later I head back to TPU and comment (and link) that Icrontic have named several high-level execs included in the sackings in response to a member who was unaware of such.
>>>>>>>>>>>
Some time after this you obviously read bta's story. You're so interested in it's content you don't bother to check any further, nor read the comments following the story (doing either would have obviously shown the story to be true)...instead launch a little tirade about what amounted to semantic bullshit at that point.
So...that's WTF I'm talking about

Although this does suck, most of the people that are let go will likely receive severance packages as well. They'll probably get about six months pay (unemployment) before they stop getting anything from AMD. Severance packages are NOT limited to corporate executives.

Simplistic.
Intel may be all of those things...but then again so are AMD - remember the Randy "40%" Allen?, Barcelona's non-existant 2.7GHz part?, Bulldozers lengthy and protacted spurious performance slides and Mr Fruehe's product placement posting?

In addition to Intel being underhanded, sneaky and evil, Intel have also consistantly delivered CPU product for the last five years. They have consistently met their CPU/chipset launch dates (within reason). They consistantly meet the performance parameters they claim prior to product launch. And they allow sites to independently preview the product before launch...and AMD have done....what?

Rail against Intel...fine, but AMD aren't exactly a world apart here. Planning on building a VIA based system?

if AMD had deep pockets and numerous R&D teams like Intel does, I am quite sure they would be executing in a more timely manner as well as surprising businesses and consumers alike with greater performace than promised with their products...

simply put- money enables many things

And if AMD didn't hype Bulldozer so much it wouldn't have fell so hard. How can they not know the performance of their own product? Why won't AMD marketing back off? Surely you can see the mismanagement.
