AMD Piledriver to Boost Performance by 10%, Feature New Instruction Set

How do you know? got any credible source regarding BD/PD performance?

The whole idea of this forum is to exchange opinions and speculations. If only comments based on solid numbers was allowed, it'd be quite pointless to have a forum and discuss the subject in the first place. No need to flame everyone for having negative speculations.

Well, we know PD will be 32nm, and that the architecture is vastly similar to BD; no big improvements are to be expected. BD will most likely perform similarly with SB. IB will be based on a 22nm manufacturing process: better thermals and overclocking. It will also have the 3D-trigate transistors, which should improve power consumption. Obviously no one knows for sure, so we can only make educated guesses.

Well you've missed the fun on other threads, and I was half expecting you know something we don't.

foolish mortals!

How dare u mock Amd! Exactly 2.5 hours after bulldozers release, world hunger & poverty will end.(money saved from not buying intel true value/performance) 5.7 days after pile driver's release man will use it to invent something greater than sliced bread! Laugh now...we'll see who laughs last!:rockout:

Hopefully for AMD I fall into a coma so that when they finally release a delayed Piledriver in mid-to-late 2013, this 10% gain still excites me.

AMD needs to put out some chips and shut up. I love AMD but lets go already enough talking time to produce.

STFU about AMD bulldozer failing against Intel candy bridges cpu's, they haven't even released them yet ffs

Somebody posted this news already in the forums.
Piledriver is the wrestling move.
Pile driver is the machine.

Bulldozer FX to launch October 12... I want to believe its' a hard date.

a 10 % performance gain in 8-12 months its a shit.

Considering AMD is rushing out a refresh for a chip they haven't released yet tells me that even they aren't happy with BD's results.

Borderline gay pr0n.

AMD just better hope its sharholders hang on to them. It's starting to get bad.:ohwell:

Just like Ivy Bridge's CPU performance huh?

What are you talking about? We knew Piledriver was coming long before any delays happened.

Secondly, the most important thing is performance per dollar.

It's performance per watt dissipated, really. I am willing to pay reasonable premium for a colder-running chip at certain performance level.

Sure we did, but so soon? BD is already a failure and it's not even released yet. That's my opinion on it. AMD is Intel's competition but unfortunately they're barely competing. Competition is needed and I want AMD to succeed however they have been dissappointing. I know it, AMD knows it, shareholders (which I am one of) know it. I hope they can turn things around.

It just means that Piledriver is right on schedule. But then again, we have no idea how many delays it will experience.

I'm sorry but where did AMD OFFICIALLY state that there were delays? They never mentioned OFFICIALLY when a release date would occur. These were all rumours/made up by the media.
Benchmarks CAN'T be released until NDA is up either.
I can understand the frustration but maybe stop and think about all of this and wait for official news not from "trusted unnamed sources".
I am waiting to see BD in action as much as everyone else to see as to whether I go BD or SB. The one thing I love about the idea of going BD is the fact I could just sell off my BD processor next year and get a PD and drop it in.

Let's just wait and see before jumping to conclusions yeah?

1) If you read what I said, you'll notice it was opinion not matter-of-fact.
2) I'm just reading the wind buddy and it smells off. I don't need officials to tell me how to do that. ;)

AMD has so much leet and fast stuff. Where do I buy ?

...I have one I can sell you...I also have a bridge in Brooklyn I can sell you...if interested...

I think whatever AMD is releasing will suck compared to Intel's high end stuff, but it will be enticing to tight/poor people like me

Nothing will change :)

Piledriver = 1.1 x We don't have a clue.

Yeah, somehow that comparison doesn't help.

Well, that disappoints. PD was really looking to be so much more when it was previewed months ago. But now its looking to be just another stopgap like BD. Just trying to survive while Intel remains in the lead. Bit embarrassing they are even admitting its only a 10% improvement.

Glad it seems it won't be using an entirely new socket, but instead of "FX Next" lets have an "FX Now".

More and more their APUs seem to be looking a lot more interesting than these lines. Can't wait to see the 2nd and the 3rd gen APUs.

Especially when the new generation sandy bridge are going to increase performance by 30% to 50% over the 2600k... If AMD doesn't find a way to DRAMATICALLY increase performance, the only place they'll be competing with intel will be the lower-end i3's... And I wouldn't want that for them.

Of course, the long term looks very bright for AMD but not really on the CPU front...

BD should bring them back to atleast, nipping at the heels of sandy bridge. pile driver isn't comming till mid to late 2012 and considering they mentioned q3, i'd guess that would be about the time they come. So is almost a year really that soon?

personally i'm going to wait it out till 2013 when they should be moving to a socket (FM2?3?) that does away with the NB, has native usb3, etc. the only upgrading i'll be doing in the mean time is probably moving to a 1055t and maybe a new gpu.

Sorry, but information regarding any AMD release date I just don't believe. I don't really care either. As an investor I want AMD to succeed, but they clearly are not. When they actually start releasing products not riddled by delays and whatnot, they then may start to succeed. Money talks, and so far I have lost more than half of my investment in AMD stock.
