The Radeon RX 6800 XT is a worthy opponent to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080. It offers similar performance at better power efficiency and lower noise levels. In our Radeon RX 6800 XT review, we also take a closer look at raytracing and "Rage Mode", a new 1-click method for overclocking.

Awesome; feels like we've been waiting ages for this!

that power consumption, and noise levels - wow!

Not surprisingly, the ray-tracing performance is quite a bit behind. Makes it difficult to decide for me as I want a card for ray-traced Minecraft.
Hope they will catch up in the future.

Daaamn!

I think AIB's are going to have alot of fun with these babies.

TLDR:
  • Truly stellar rasterization performance per watt thanks to the 7nm node.
  • Finally solved multi-monitor idle power consumption!!
  • Quite poor RTRT performance (I expected something close to RTX 2080 Ti, nope, far from it).
  • No tensor cores (they are not just for DLSS but various handy AI features like background noise removal, background image removal and others).
  • Horrible x264 hardware encoder.
  • Almost no attempt at creating a decent competition. I remember AMD used to fiercly compete with NVIDIA and Intel. AMD 2020: profits and brand value (fueled by Ryzen 5000) first.
Overall: kudos to RTG marketing machine which never fails to overhype and underdeliver. In terms of being future-proof people should probably wait for RDNA 3.0 or buy ... NVIDIA. Even 3-5 years from now you'll be able to play the most demanding titles thanks to DLSS just by lowering resolution.

....and im not impressed. Exactly where I thought these cards would sit, and ray tracing performance is dog shit.

Performance per watt runs circles around Nvidia though.

What a destructive launch, welcome back AMD

What or who have they destructed? I'm truly curious. As far as I can see these cards are for hardcore AMD fans who will continue to say that RTRT and hardware AI acceleration are irrelevant. Yes, they are irrelevant on RTX 6000 hardware but very much viable for the RTX 3000 series which thanks to Tensor Cores allows to enable RTRT/DLSS and game at 4K and implement some cool AI features.

how on earth 5% worse than 3080
While being 9% cheaper, I consider that a win!
Certainly, they might just end up being the same (and ridiculously high) price.

Almost 100W less on average with that insane chunk of power hungry cache, confirmation that Samsung's node is utter crap, my God how the tables have turned. And all of that just so that Nvidia could save probably a couple of bucks per chip.

On the Spec page, it's mentioned 6800 and 6800 XT have 23 billion transistors, but on AMD's spec sheet they both have 26.8 billions.

well done AMD, I feel like this is the first products in a few gens that really deliver. truly competitive and right up to scratch. the next gens from both camps now is going to be HOT

Yeah this here is awesome seeing AMD raise again. I am waiting for Sapphire's Nitro card this time around should be released on the 25th of November :D

Fixed, thanks! GPU-Z has the wrong value, too

As my current 1080Ti is plenty for my 1440p gaming, the upgrade to consider would have been for Raytracing and other benefits, so still Nvidia for future me at the moment but those results are very impressive

Impressive almost 10% gaming performance increase from overclocking, taking it above the 3080 and level with 3080... Nvidia in trouble indeed.

You can overclock a 3080 too...

Yep. Wanted to post just about that. These things are gonna be overclocking monsters.

I checked TPU's FE review just now. 3.9% performace boost from OC.

The problem will be price, at least in Sweden. No store would make a profit on MSRP (according to Sweclockers anyway), and it's unclear what prices we'll be looking at in future.

If you can ever get one retail that isnt $1000+ of Ebay.

Good thing copium is legal worldwide, i see some are fixing themselves already.

It's a 3080 in old games and a 3070 in new games (RT). No thanks.
you weren't going to buy it anyway, mr shill

legal, but at this rate nvidia users are going to buy up all the supply and end up scalping it
