Wow no to watch Gundam Wing? I agree with Zeta Gundam though.
I mean if I had to recommend to someone Gundam and they were interested in starting with the Universal century timeline then at minimum the original show, be it you watch the 3 OVA to speed run or the original show. Then Zeta gundam(again 3 part OVA or show) and then Chars counterattack.
Enjoy them then dive into the rest.

Other shows in my opinion like Wing, G, X, Seed etc you can jump in at any point as they are standalone and a good gate way into the franchise, but the best gateway show to get into Gundam "lore" is definitely Build fighters and Build fighters try.

If people enjoy Seed then they should in theory like the original show+Zeta, since Seed&Seed Destiny plot was inspired by the original&Zeta.

Random question for you all, the interwebs in the west has got into the habit to call the native language("japanese" for example) as "sub" and then other language("english" for example) as the dub.
Do you call the native language "sub" or "original"/xyz language/native?

With any movie/show it's usually called a "Dub" when it's spoken dialouge is in the language of the one watching it, regardless of it's original language.

"Sub' normally refers to subtitles that you can read to understand what's being said because there would not be a version of it spoken in the language it's watcher speaks when that was done.
Sometimes a show/movie has both, sub and dub features to it.

When you say "Original language", it's just that - Unless something is denoted about it you probrably won't see anything concerning it.

Gundam fans, what are your thoughts on this lady "watch list"
I don't agree with some of them.

She recommends watching "The Witch from Mercury" so I'm automatically going to dismiss any of her opinions. (She recommended some of the worst shows in Gundam, but dismisses some of the best, so definitely not worth listening to.)

I refer to anything in the original language (that isn't my native language) as the subbed/subs and anything with voice overs as a dubbed/dubs. I always prefer any movie/TV in it's native language as very rarely are the dubs equal, let alone better than the subs.

Let's ask the real questions:

Is Power Rangers a dub? Or is it considered originally English?

Or are only the Zordon / Angel Grove scenes considered OG English, while all the 'borrowed' Japanese footage only the dubbed parts?

Power Rangers I would consider an original English show with reused footage from other shows. There's been a large amount of reused assets in TV and movies, so changing the audio over what is mostly people in helmets and costumes isn't something I would consider a dub in the foreign (to USA) media sense. Any audio from the original footage would have been dubbed over anyway.

That depends on the language the original actors were speaking when filmed.
Even though they may or may not have been somewhere (On location) where the original language is normally spoken, it's a matter of what the cameras themselves recorded as spoken from the actual actors making it.

I'm not a fan nor do I watch that show so I can't comment on that but from a perspective of what was originally filmed/recorded you can refer to that as whether what you hear is original or not (Dubbed).

Power Ranger is an American Show that used Japanese Scenes, particularly the "Zyuranger" footage.

Zyurangers was... Super Sentai #16 (16th in a long running series). When the show came to America, the production company also bought the costumes and many props. So Saban Entertainment (the American production company) added new scenes (ie: Zordon, Alfalfa, and "Angel Grove" high school) that they thought would make Americans like the story better. In fact, Power Rangers completely changes the plot.

But you can still see the civilians randomly turn into 100% Japanese people randomly as Zyuranger stock footage was recycled and dubbed over.

So its a fun thought: its a "partially dubbed" show IMO. The Zyuranger fights were all in costume, so there was no need to lipsync and no one could see the actors/actresses anyway. In fact, the Yellow Zyuranger is male, but the Yellow Power Ranger is female. So the costumes make it difficult to see who is who.

A fellow tokusatsu fan?? I thought I was the only one in this forum lol.
But yeah I find Power rangers and even "Masked rider" a weird hybrid but a dull hybrid.

Toilet Bound Hanako-Kun episode 1 was surprisingly good.

Nene Yashiro, the lead female, hears a rumor that a ghost / spirit will grant wishes in exchange. After summoning the spirit in the 3rd bathroom stall, Hanako-Kun (the spirit) ends up to be a nice guy.

The show progresses mostly as a comedy, with Nene Yashiro hopelessly incompetent and genre-blind to the point of hilariousness... while the ghost protagonist Hanako-Kun is closer to the straight-man: who is clearly trying to minimize the damage from the nature of Yashiro's occult wishes. As a ghost/spirit himself, Hanako-kun is seemingly very familiar with the dangers at play here.

Comedy is always subjective. But I do like the play of Yashiro the stereotypical hopeless horror story female protagonist who messes with occult matters far beyond her understanding. But with a kind and cool Hanako-Kun ghost serving as her guide, it feels more like a safe adventure rather than a real horror story.

----------

Hanako-Kun does seem to cross into the action-genre slightly with a fight scene in the first episode. I still think the overall show leaned mostly rom-com on the 1st episode though.

-------

EDIT: Apparently I'm way behind. The anime has been "restarted"??? EDIT2: Looks like the "restart" project hasn't finished. But apparently they skipped two important arcs in the 1st Season and fans are a bit angry. So they are giving this series the "Brotherhood" treatment and resyncing with the Manga and just restarting from Episode1 again (but who knows when that remake will come? Its still not out yet).

Well I had fun watching Gundam Seed Freedom:
I had a long catch up with 2 of my friends who I haven't seen in 5-6 years.
Before the adverts/trailers were playing we was talking crap about the series and the guys in front of us were having a bit of a giggle at our banter.
I was making funny references throughout the viewing to 1 of my other friend(there was 4 of us).
I was a little surprised it got rated 15.
When they were playing a flashback to Chairman Durandal, I was like its char!
For some reason they were using the beam rifle sound effects from Star wars which sounded terrible in my opinion
It was nice to see Shinn happy
I was not a fan of Lacus face design
Kira was a better char in this in comparison to Destiny
Athrun is a man of culture
Mu la flaga pulling a "It is I Dio!" moment
Never trust a Gyan pilot
It was nice to hear Meteor and TM Revolution in general
It was nice to hear the vocalist from See-saw returning but the song wasn't as good as their 1st ending in Seed or 4th ending in Destiny
The lack of jiggles was very surprising from them, given again it is a rated 15

Been binging a lot of classics lately. Watched 6 out of the 7 seasons of InuYasha in just a week. Rurouni Kenshin (original 1996 anime, not the recent 24-ep adaptation) before that. Have Cardcaptor Sakura and Yuu Yuu Hakusho on schedule.

Yeah, Ranma 1/2 is one of the funniest shows I watched. I think it only gets beaten by Gintama.

Slime S3 returns.

Spice and Wolf returns after 16 years. Looks like a remake from the start (with a tidbit of the sequel-novel in the first episode now). Apparently the writers felt like the original anime diverged too much from the novels, so they want to start over and tell it from the beginning.
