If that is true, I specifically recall stating that this card coming out soon for NVIDIA will be right around the 980Ti...

Not that I can read the future, just that it always seems to be that way... :)

EDIT: One thing to note, that seems to be done on an i3 or am I crazy/sysinfo not reporting correctly? I see 2 cores 4 threads...i3 2100 listed That would mean when done with a i7, that score goes up because of the PhysX test.....

Probably intentional to hide performance

I also noticed Im an idiot......

Those numbers arent even close to a 980ti in 3d11. 11.xK? I scored 20K on a highly overclocked (factory) 980ti with a stock 6700K.

They're running it at very low clock speeds (540-545 MHz) as to not reveal how much retail performance it could have. At 1 GHz, it could spit out 21,625 points.

As they said in the article...unknown cards typically spit out that ~540Mhz value.

I noted that test was done with W8.1 on an Ivy Bridge Cpu.
That might reduce benefits seen in Windows 10 also with a modern CPU.

I'm curious, is there a game out there that is truly pushing graphics @ 1080p? PC games for some time have been console ports with all kinds of eye candy settings & increased draw distance to help move video cards for Nvidia/AMD. I'm wondering if there is a game out there that really needs more graphic power then what the market currently has to offer?

It depends on what card you are talking about. At 1080p, a 970 cannot max every game. Indeed, there are some games my 980 cannot totally max out and maintain 60 fps.

970 at most will handle demanding games at Very High with no AA @ 1080p well. 980 should be able to handle a little better. Optimal card now is the 980Ti with games now that some are poor ports like Batman: Arkham Knight for example.

The thing is, WCCFtech is famous for speculation, and the whole bundle of questionable info for this article was taken from another resource (+neither has links to validation pages).

The overall specs and "observed" performance looks quite close to long-awaited 8GB version of GTX 980, or even an already existing Quadro M5000.
Later card actually fits the bill more than any other: 2048CU, 8GB GDDR5 (211GB/s bandwidth @1800MHz) and not a single 3Dmark submission ATM. Theoretically M5000 should have identical results.

Basically, we need to wait for Computex and see if either camp brings any consumer products. If nothing pops up - we'll have to wait at least 'till 2017. AMD is definitely going to present something, since they at least had a performance showcase at CES. But in light of recent events (or lack of thereof) I am no longer confident that Pascal gaming cards will actually appear this year...

The only thing I know for sure, is that new Drive PX and Drive CX systems are on the way, because my cousin is working on a new infotainment system for Mercedes (outsourced) and they've got a couple of prototypes.
... and that P100 workstation/server cards are coming, because NVidia already said so.

the big unknown is how the new nvidia cards handle the bound to come DX12 games.. i am a green team dude but so far its looking like the amd solution gets a boost from DX12.. all yet to be proven but it could be a game changer if amd gain an extra edge over nvidia..

on my end, I think consumer grade Pascal cards will arrive by mid-August or later, depending on the demand & whether the vendors will ship them to where I live. Latest will be around mid September.

is that because the graphic engine itself is difficult to run or all the eye candy maxed out becomes a resource hog? Does the game run fine at 4-8xMSAA, shadows at high, draw distance at high or must it be FXAA, shadows & draw distance on ultra.

And now my rant for the day: What happened to high settings being good? Now high settings are mediocre, very high settings are good, and ultra settings are what you need to shoot for. Playing a game on medium settings?! May as well break out the old pong machine as there is no graphic difference.

Typically, there are not many differences between Ultra/High etc, it depends on the title... so I hear you there...

That said, why would I try to play it with anything less than how the devs intended it to look like? If I wanted to lower settings and not care, I would own a console. But, I own a PC, and since I do, I want it to look the best it can.

Typically consoles performance offers what your PC can run at 1080p 30FPS and medium settings with little eye candy but I understand what you are saying. I typically play games only found on the PC but I also do appreciate the better graphic performance if I am playing a console port.

The thing with video cards is there is a carrot on a stick business model. Developers receive help (and money sometimes) from Nvidia/AMD in order for certain games to play better on their cards and well as help push sales of those new cards. That's why in 2014 you can max out the AAA title of Death to all Butterflies (brought to you by Nvidia: The Way It's meant to be Played) on your GTX 780 yet in late 2015, Death to all Butterflies II comes out using the exact same engine and now all the sudden the GTX780 is only offering 45FPS on very high settings...time to get the GTX 980...

That's exactly what I am saying...If I wanted 1080p/30FPS/Medium/Limted AA, I would buy a console. But since I want to see the details and run it faster than 30 FPS, I chose a PC.

Exactly this. My statements on the viability of the 970 at 1080p are based on the same standard you subscribe to. I don't play games on the PC to not have the max details I can get at a still playable framerate, which for me is 45-60fps.

If it can't do that, then the game has outmatched the card's abilities.

Is the inability to do async compute on Nvidia cards, really going to hurt them in DX12 titles or games that get DX12 upgrades?

Consumer grade Pascal cards, in the form of GTX1070 & GTX1080 will be out around July this year, utilizing GDDR5X chips. For the prosumer-grade Tesla P100, it will be the only card that has the HBM2 as standard. Might wanna wait it out a little while longer b4 getting my hands on one.

They will most likely release the lower grade or mid grade products first. There is no business need for them to put high end GPUs to market yet, especially with how the 970 and 980TI still sell.

I'd be more of the belief that the cards come Q4/Q1

What is your source for this?
