seriously... this onboard audio is killing me. any suggestions would help.

Have you tried tampering with the settings? Otherwise if you still aint satisfied, it might be the time to shop for a real card ;)

what realtek is it?

Yeah and also, what speakers do you have? Its important too. Cause I use my realtek onbard audio too, and its quite good playing on my logitech's.

i use headphones.

audiotechnica ath-a700s

Yeah I gotta agree that they suck for headphones though. I'll leave that for the other audio specialists around here, cause its one domain that I suck big time

im considering building a dedicated headphone amp with some NOS 54' JAN 12sx7's ive got laying around

ive defiled every setting and its not up to my standard. close as i can get to the sound i want is with dfx. i guess its been time for a new card...

Realtek ALC889

The 889a is a very good onboard ...The only way to beat it is in the $100 range Sound cards (Auzentek X Raider is an under $100 option)

But to me its a bit hard to tell differences.(the other chipsets sound like crap to me)

I just searched the thread, and it looks like a few people had success with the 889A chipset.

i guess im just unlucky... or it might be the os. ive tried both the dk and ket drivers to no avail. win7 x64

I have always been impressed with Realtek onboard sound. I would see what other headphones you can get and see how it varies.

i dont know if id invest in another set of headphones... these ones are pretty good. they sounded great on my x-fi elite pro but i have no pci slots on this mobo so that card is out of the question.

Maybe a shitty headphone port/plug what ever it's called that you put you headphones/speakers into?

i think its either shitty onboard audio or my standards for audio are too high.

The 889 chip sounds great. Unfortunately it doesn't get loud enough for my needs. I'm using my three year old Soundblaster Xtreme Audio card that sounds just as good, is much louder and cost me $40 bones.

I do notice with the Asus Zonar and X raider sound cards headphones sound quite a bit louder.
(I have prob used my headphones for 10 min the last 6 mos so I am not a big headphone user)

QFT, I use the $20 Skullcandy ear buds and they sound great. The bass and highs are seriously comparable to a nice car audio setup.

Well it sounds like you've decided to get a card then.

it is to my ears w/ headphones.. but then again i prefer tube sound

LOL, so you like tube sound but would even try to use onboard in the first place:laugh:
