i downloaded the demo and i get poor performance. i have core 2 duo 2.96ghz, 2gb ddr2 ram, geforce 8800gs 384mb. i should get over 30fps at 1680*1200 resolution. but i get under 30fps at 1280*1200 res at ultra settings. i dont know why. is it because of the demo or if i get the full game and the patch the performance will be better???

DIRT was the first game on a new racegame-engine. The code wasn't optimized yet. GRID runs on the same engine and runs much better.

Game is a giant-killer
on the benchmarks, my 8800gs 384mb can play up to 1680*1200 resolution on ultra setting and still get above 30fps, but i cant even get 30fps at 1280*1200 res. what could be wrong? they tested it with a Q9450 CPU but i have core 2 duo at 2.96ghz. would the quad core make that much of huge difference or there is something wrong????

I play it smooth, no stuttering at 1280x1024, Ultra Quality, Full AA, Full AF....
No hickups whatsoever... unfortunately my LCD maxes out at 1280x1024 so i can't give you any details on higher resolutions...
My guess would be your 8800GS is not up to the challenge...

drop the res a bit to 1280 x see if that helps ?
edit nm see your already running that, seems weird you cant even acheive 30fps at that res, maybe its poorly optimisedm, try high instead of ultra ?

ok. now its fine. i got the full version with the patch and now i can play with 38fps on ultra settings at my native resolution 1600*1200 pretty good.

i play Grid with 60fps at those settings.
i dont use AA or AF in games just to save performance. do i have to use AA when i play at 1600*1200 res???? there are some jaggies but i dont like AA. its a big performance hit. what do u think???

You will most probably find the full version in multi-car races higher up in the tiers will have severe lag spikes.
Races like supercar rally cross are notorious.
