Yea. Didn't u see the news. Like a month ago, Intel reported at 2009 Q6600's will start phasing out.

I dont really keep up with that kind of stuff all I knew was amd's cpus were cheap and intel cpus were expensive but good as shit, but q6600 phasing out is that good or bad? I just read soemthing saying that the q6600 were still better against a phenom 2 940 or somethign the guy prolly didnt know what he was talking about though haha

Phasing out means it will sell what they already have left. And once it reaches 0 stock, u can say good byes to Q6600's. And I don't believe a Q6600 could beat a phenom 2 and the prices for the current PII is tad expensive. Only consider buying it if u own a AM2+ already.

u won't be seeing any benchmarks with the Q6600 lately because it's phasing out.

Yes that is very interesting PII is more comparable to Q6600 that the newer intel models and every one is comparing it to them. AMD don`t want to know that PII it is barely faster than Q6600 and intel it is not too happy if you buy 180$ quad they rather sell you 300$ one even if no one need it really.

For our benefit I like where this is going release price 275$ for PII 940 in one month 250$ I would guess. Add to that three months add 920 PII add PII x3 and than Athlon64 x4 it would not cost more than 100$ I would like play with that. I would like to know how 920 PII is overlclocking every review I read and every thread here on TPU it is all about PII 940 I would like to know does 920 can hit 3.8 GHz like PII 940 ?

What are you talking about! there you are again spreading false information and propaganda. The Q6600 is more closer to the Phenom 9950. The Phenom II 920 is a lot faster than the Q6600, the last review I saw at Tech Report the PII 920 wins against the Q6600 by a near landslide.

Q6600 has a 5fps diff in performance against the PII. For the price Q6600 wins. Obviously if u have a AM2+ mobo definitely go PII.

Well you can say that about the i7 as well in terms of FPS it doesn't overwhelm the Q6600 to justify its cost either. The i7 costs more than a Q6600 and and Phenom (original) build combined! But to be frank I'm not trying to argue on the pricing front or performance front, but R9 is making out that Q6600s competition is the Phenom II which is stupid, when its clear the Phenoms IIs competition is between the Q9xxx and i7.

Edit:

Gaming isn't really CPU bound anyways. Analyse the non-gaming tasks especially rendering, encoding, compresssion, productivity, multi-tasking, folding etc and you'll see what I mean.

he's right...Even intel said the i7 line up was not for gaming but productivty type stuff like photoshop and rendering etc. So any extra advantage in gaming is just gravy to them. All the benchmarks show the pii comptetition being the q9400 or the q9550 for the upcoming 945 which is intel's low to mid range. AMD is clearly one process gen behind but this 940/945 at least makes them a decent alternative for fan boys and those with am2+systems. But amd is so far behind that they have resorted to rushed products and we end up with the proverbial wet fart that was the phenom I . If amd ever gets into the position that the athlon afforded them ever again hopefully they learned a less in not resting on their laurels...intel clearly learned from the athlon ass whiping. Which is good for the consumer. But we need a healthy amd to keep up innovation or intel will push the itanic on us and fist f*ck us with a broken glass and lemon juice covered glove

 That's the most terrible thing I've ever heard. Intel doesn't want AMD to die though, if that happened intel would be a monopoly and likely be broken up. I have a feeling they are somewhat in cahoots right now, which is actually worse, as that is certain doom to advancement and competitive prices. We'll see though, intel has already laid out their plan for the next 3 years, all that remains in question is specifics, but AMD should have an idea of how to counter, they just gotta do it.

Benchmarks mean JACK at this moment.
I plan on picking up the 940 when the price goes down alittle. Maybe sometime in Feb 2009. Can't wait though :toast:
