Come on Guys ( Asus Commando )

Am I the only person still using an Asus Commando ?
I joined this forum so that you guys might share your wisdom !!:banghead:
All I need is a little help in setting up the bios so that I might enjoy my Quad
Core to the max.
Figured you guys were the ones to ask.
Perhaps I was wrong

The brutal truth is the Commando uses a P965 chipset.. and around 375FSB is roughly about where your likely to top out on that chipset and CPU combination. Put your multiplier back to 9x, and assuming your CPU can do that speed, that will put you just shy of 3.4GHz. About as good as its likely to get on that P965.

Well, I'm still using a Commando, but unfortunately I am still on my dual e6600, so cant help you with a Quad. I'm running at 450 FSB and have taken it to 475 but don't know/think my settings would pertain to you with the Quad. Also, I believe your 4x1gb RAM will also cause limitations for you. Have you tried with only 2 sticks of ram?

But that's a little dissapointing.
I had heard tales of 450+ FSB's using this particular board ?
Maybe I should be saving up for a new MB
Asus Rampage or P5Q Deluxe what do ya think ?

Yeah but like hawk said, he has got 450, but its on a dual core. quads dont OC as well as duals. P45's can get a quad to 450-500 fsb but then again it can take a dual to 500-600+FSB!

965 wasnt designed for quads, first chip to fully support it was P35, X38 etc.

I think your right on the Ram side.
I only added another 2*1GB when I made the move to Vista X64 (which incidently has proved itself to be Rock Solid - Despite what's been said)
Do you think a 2*2GB combination would give me a better result, or just stick with 2*1gb.

I too had an E6600 before on this MB but never acheived anything like those FSB figures.
Any chance you could give me the Bios settings. :respect:
Maybe I could use them as a starting point for this Quad.

You wont get a quad to the same FSB and speeds as a dual core.

Oh and +1 on the deluxe, but only if you are going to use its extra features, otherwise its a waste of money.

Where the Asus Bios Upates just to make the P965 accept but not fully support the Quads then ?
Maybe I'll just pop my E6600 back in and save up for that P5Q Deluxe then.
To be absolutely honest I think I fooled myself into believing the Quad core made the system feel more responsive !!
It certainly has little or no affect on Gaming (COD4)

an e6600 and q6600 will have little to no difference gaming as most games can only uses two cores, hence the two cores on the q6600 do little more than idle.

Thats why i decided against upgrading to quad. when my new cooler comes though I'm gonna OC my e6600 to about 3.6 and wait for the new intel architecture. If I were you, dont get the P45, wait for the new X58 boards and processors and upgrade then. I am glad I bought the P5Q but I wouldnt buy it now, there is no point.

Personally, I would pick up the P5Q Pro and use my mBIOS 1004, it turns the board into an uncrippled monster.

same as mine can't get past 375FSB on 8x multi but 9x multi it can go above 450FSB on my Q6600. Old mobo but still kicking on performance :rockout:
