When I start windows in safe mode i cannot run unlockrom. Windows says that I have to run the application in administrator mode, but I have startet cmd as administrator.

In safe mode I cannot run unlockrom. Windows says that due to Microsoft win8 enhanced security features the application requieres Administrator mode, but I am administrator and I have started cmd as administrator.

I have ordered this spi flasher. It will take some time until it arrives. Is there a good manual how to use spi flashers?

Now I found a completely new solution to flash the card, and at the moment it is working! I don't know how long the card will work, but if it fails it would be definitely a hardware problem. I will make some tests.

Here is what I have done:

I have removed my SSD and have mounted an old formated HDD. On the HDD I have installed Windows 7 Professional x64 (without any updates as internet was not working without downloaded LAN drivers). It was a bit tricky because Win 7 without updates does not support USB 3.0 and so I had to copy the flash tools with my DVD-Drive to the HDD. Then I have used atiflash for Windows and the latest firmware from Techpowerup to flash the card. After that I have removed the HDD and mounted the SSD again. At the moment Windows is running with the card.

Thank you once again for your support. I will report if the card still works after the tests.

Update: I could install the official drivers without any problems and I have run some benchmarks without any crashes. It seems that everything works fine now.

just asking for some clarification, as i have somewhat similar issues with a pair of 470 nitro.
mining card, flashed “new” bios. Display goes black after a few seconds.

win 10 flash failed/was not working correctly but win7 fresh without any drivers managed to do the job?

I can give u 100% best option possible that works for ( asus ) idk if other manufacturers upload their vbios to website so :

1. Go to for example in my case asus website rx 470 8gb > support > bios and tools > winflash tool rx 470 o8gb ( it is removed now but it was there before i wrote to them ).
2. Extract that tool (7zip) ( It contains extra win 7 files compared to standard tool u can download on techpowerup in download > amd/ati flasher tool )
3. Find oldest vbios (probably first most stable usually ) on techpowerup vga databse
4. I had bat command in my flashing package it was smth like this :

C:
cd C:\Users\USER\Downloads\STRIX_RX470_OC\STRIX_RX470_OC
atiflash -unlockrom 0
atiflash -p 0 67DFHB.15.50.0.0.AS31.rom -f
atiflash -lockrom 0

5. I did flash my rx 470 when i was on integrated intel gpu

This gave me by far the best results compared to any ati flash tools i found on techpowerup and compared to any vbios except the verified one from vga database !

TIP:

use windows from 7 - windows 10 ( version 1709) is latest i believe that works with atiflash from 1803 and later this tool wont work properly.

create a new thread post pictures of your stock keeping unit number from the white sticker on the side of the card heat sink or on the back of the card and also take the card heatsink off and take pictures of the memory and also please provide your complete system specs

What is 1+8 pin actually doing ? Is it removing some kind of hard lock from gpu or whats the purpose of doing that. Is it 1+8 pin for all cards ( including rx 470 8gb) or every card got different pins to connect. Im curious cuz i saw a lot people advertising it and if i ever find a need to flash would be nice to try something new.

It brings it out of write protect however you must sever the link in order to flash.
