I don't use that mobo anymore. I remember I started to observe that behavior after updating ATI drivers. Also the nVidia card on my laptop has an high definition device. And I see the same as you. So I think that must be driver or operating system related.

Have MSI K8N Neo2 platinum (nF3 ultra chipset) Award BIOS. High cpu on one core!

I just tried installing HIS HD4670 AGP on MS-7025 ver 1 board. I disabled onboard audio in bios BEFORE loading fresh copy of Windows XP SP2. Manually updated it to SP3, loaded all versions of net. framework, loaded DX9.0c. All I have on the mobo is an Video card.. no other
PCI slots are used. (did that on purpose)

mobo - MSI K8N NEO2 PLAT MS-7025 ver 1
BIOS - AWARD V6.00PG revision 1.D (latest one for this board)
CPU - AMD 4800+ toledo (2.4ghz)
PSU - PC Power & Cooling ATX-510
MEM - OCZ ELPDE 1024 x 2 (PC-3200) 184 pin DIMM
Case - Antec P-180
VGA - HIS HD4670 AGP 1GB (native HDMI OUT) with CCC 10.7 AGP hotfix version
OS - WinXP SP3

To my suprise I got a 7.1 and 5.1 channel PCM Audio signal over HDMI (with some fiddling in Windows sound device configs). I have not loaded any software capable of sending 5.1 chan audio yet.. (just have WMP 11 on the box right now with a cheapie 2 ch mpeg codec from Cyberlink.)

So I currently only get 2 channels of sound from Front L+R speakers, but the receiver shows 7.1 chans of 192khz PCM in the AV display so I'm fairly certain I can get 5.1 chan Dolby digital with the right software / codecs. Anyway I'm very happy bout getting sound over HDMI, but

I have almost 100% cpu utilization in CPU core 1. (dual core AMD 4800+ toledo)

When I disable the UAA HD audio the utilization stops (and so does my sound over HDMI) I want to use the imbedded HDMI audio on the HIS HD4670 card, not onboard sound (realtek ALC850) and not a separate sound card.

I came across ARTBIO's procedure to define four devices to the AGPB ACPITBL and even tho his example was for an nf2 bois, my nf3 was almost identical.. I was able to recode the three additional devices in the AGP section and re-assemble the table and incorporate it into the Ver 1.D bios.

Now I'm at the point where I flash the new bios and to be honest, I'm a bit nervous.. (scared $hitless) I was hoping I could show you what I've done and get you to "bless it" before I take a run at it.. I'm concerned because when I display the Devices in Device manager I can see the HD4600 in PCI 16, and the UAA Audio in PCI 11, But when I display the properties of each:
The HD4600 shows its mapped to "PCI BUS 1, DEVICE 0, FUNCTION 0"
The UAA HD shows its mapped to "PCI BUS 1, DEVICE 0, FUNCTION 1"

Now this is confusing because this appears to be correct! (or else I would not hear sound from the HDMI) but when I check task mgr I get almost 100% cpu on core1. I checked event
viewer and get the dredded IRQARB: error about no IRQ on SLOT 0, FUNCTION 1. but I only
see it two times in event viewer after each bootup. (so I guess the ACPI is somehow able to
re-route the UAA device to the correct PCI BUS, but since the UAA and HD4600 are on separate IRQ's I still must be getting some sort of conflict? (I cannot detect any confict when
viewing device mgr..)

But when I disable the UAA the cpu drops to normal on core 1.

Will coding the four devices in the ACPITBL for AGPB resolve this? I am really wigged out at
the prospect of flashing the bios and rendering my mobo inoperable.. I'm just looking for a
2nd pair of eye's to review what I've done and tell me if I'm on the right track..
(ARTBIO, you out there man?)

My humble thanks to anyone that can lend me some assistance...

Hello,

Thank you artbio for this post. I followed step by step and all is OK. Not conflict IRQ, UAA is OK, peripheral recognized by XP. But it n' is not possible to select ATI HD Audio.

FWIW - I had the ATI HD AUDIO show up in windows sound mgr, but one day when I booted it was gone... I messed with the HDMI cable and re-booted... now the ATI HD audio is back again..

You may want to check your HDMI cable. Get a NICE SHIELDED HIGH SPEED HDMI v1.3 or higher spec'd cable.. don't cheap out! You may
have better luck finding your HDMI audio options!

I have problem with 4 step.
When i put command show me:

Who can edit bios instead of me? Link: http://file.abit.com.tw/pub/download/bios/as8//as818.exe (you can extract 7-zip to have bin file).
_______________________________________________________
Don't feel bad, I hit my face on it too!
Each type of board is different. I was using an MSI K8N w nF3 chipset and AWARD BIOS. When I extracted the bios, the source I had was almost identical to the examples in ARTBIO's procedure.

I too encountered some issues when trying the procedure so I goofed around for a day just experimenting.. (DOH!) I found that the INTEL IASL compiler generated source code that would not re-compile without errors.

1st try:
Decompile with IASL.exe --> Compile IASL.exe = ERRORS
2nd try:
Decompile with IASL.exe --> Compile with ASL.exe = WARNINGS
3rd try:
Decompile with ASL.exe --> Compile with ASL.exe = NO ERRORS!

Now the Microsoft ASL uncompiler (disassembler) function will generate source code that is slightly different than the Intel IASL uncompiler (disassembler) function.. The file that INTEL generates has a .dsl file extention, the Microsoft ASL generates a file with a .asl extention. (but you can still edit with notepad..looks similiar to the .dsl file but the source does contain slight differences.)

Here is what I used to get a clean compile. (I have not tried out my modded bios yet so I still don't know if its gonna kill me or not)

1. Use the following tools.
- Microsoft ASL compiler ver 4.0 - must be installed
- HxD Hex Editor ver 1.7.7.0 - must be installed
- CBROM32 ver 196 - standalone .exe file
(I ended up not using the Intel IASL compiler)

2. Create a working directory.. C:\ACPI

3. Find your specific BIOS on the manufacturers website and download it. (MSI had a .zip pkg that contains a readme, an installer, and of course the BIOS, but MSI put a .1D0 extension on it instead of
.bin and thats fine... it will still work) COPY just the BIOS to your working Directory.

4. After you install the Microsoft ASL program, copy the ASL.EXE file from its program files directory into your C:\ACPI working directory.. Do the same for the CBROM32_196.exe file. SO NOW YOU HAVE THREE FILES in your C:\ACPI directory..

5. EXTRACT the ACPITBL.BIN file from your BIOS using CBROM32.

Start your command prompt... (start -> RUN -> CMD)

Command: cbrom32_196.exe W7025NMS.1D0 /ACPITLB extract

- you will be prompted for a name.. Just key in ACPITBL.BIN and press enter. A message "[ACPI] ROM is extracted to ACPITBL.BIN will be generated...

6. Now go to your desktop and Launch the HxD hex editor and open the ACPITBL.BIN. perform a FIND on DSDT to see where its at in the file. Now when you go to copy the DSDT portion of the table, be sure to start at the "D" in DSDT. (At first I mis-understood ARTBIO's instructions and copied the BYTES just before DSDT and that messed it up..) so START AT "DSDT" and with the left mouse button depressed drag it to the bottom of the dump.. you will see it highlight. Then select copy..

7. When you copy it to the DSDT.BIN file you must open it with
the HxD editor.. which keeps the DSDT.BIN file as a tab within the same HXD window.. so you have ACPITBL.BIN in one tab and DSDT.BIN in the 2nd tab..

When you 1st open the new DSDT.bin, all you will see is HEX number in the header.. when you paste the DSDT table from the original ACPITBL.BIN, just click in the window and the 1st byte should be at the 00 header.. just use normal paste.. cntl-V.. and save it.."NOW YOU HAVE A DSDT.BIN" file in your working directory.

8. From your DOS command line, use Microsoft ASL.EXE to "uncompile" the file to a .asl file.

Command: asl.exe /u DSDT.BIN

you will see a MS msg about the version and a copyright msg but nothing else.. You should now have a DSDT.asl file in your working directory. Make a backup copy of DSDT.BIN

9. Now use NOTEPAD to find the AGP entrys and perform your edit.. Please keep in mind that each bios can be written differently than the nf2 example that ARTBOI used. I got lucky in that my Award BIOS on my nf3 board was very similiar.. (but not exact)

Be very careful as you recode... (duh!) When you edit, DO NOT INCLUDE any blank lines in your code. The Notepad may wrap the source to make it look like there are blank lines, but they are empty lines so don't use spaces on lines by themselves.. but it is permissable to pad each line of source with spaces upto the first character of code, but do not pad spaces after the last non space character of each line of code... Also be very careful with the Brackets "{" "}" and the parentheses "(" ")" characters.

10. Once your confident that your new source is complete save the new source file as DSDTNEW.asl (You may want to make a copy of the original DSDT.bin file as the ASL re-compile will overwrite it..

11. Now compile your modified DSDTNEW.asl file from CMD prompt..
Command: ASL.EXE /Fa=DSDTNEW.ASM DSDTNEW.ASL

(I also generated an asm file to use for troubleshooting.. the asm file is basically a listing of the compile.. shows errors etc.. Don't be suprised if you mess up the brackets or parentheses on your first try..
(I did)

If your compile works it will generate a message..
"DSDTNEW.ASL:
asl<DSDT.BIN>: Image Size=18777, Image Checksum=0x5"

Your sizes may be different of course..

12. Now open up the new DSDT.BIN file (it just overwrote your original) with HxD editor and SELECT ALL. Then open up the original ACPITBL.bin file and REPLACE the section starting at DSDT all the way
to the end of the file... Use Copy Paste function..

13. Now release the old ACPITBL from the BIOS file... From the command line prompt..
Command: cbrom32_196.exe W7025NMS.1D0 /acpitbl release
NOTE: Your BIOS will probably be a different named file than the one in my example

This will release the file.. you should see a msg
[ACPI] ROM is release

14. Insert the new ACPITBL.BIN..
Command: cbrom32_196.exe W7025NMS.1D0 /acpitbl ACPITBL.BIN
(you will see a version message and
"Adding ACPITBL.BIN .. 35.4%" OR SOMETHING SIMILIAR..)

YOU NOW SHOULD HAVE A BIOS WITH A MODDED DSDT TABLE!
You are now at the same point I am... FLASH THE BIOS TIME...

I don't Flash BIOS often .. only time I did was with MSI flash utility, but I'm not sure I can use that for this.. so now I have get help on how to safely flash the bios manually...

Try this stuff out and see if you get any better results...

Regarding your Bios

Ok. Now i Have problem with 9 step.
This is my DSDT.ASL: http://www.wklej.org/id/503583/
I can't find agp section and i don't know what i must change. :( I dont want damage my MB.

Well at least you have some viewable source code..
I checked your bios out..

What mobo bios are you trying to mod?
Is it AWARD BIOS?
Are you using a MOBO with AGP video or PCIE?

I think I found the VGA entry.. its called DEVICE(ICHX)
but this looks like a PCI definition...not agp..

I am not knowledgable enough about bios to give you any further direction... I was doing good just getting thru the procedure...
You will have to seek help from the folks like ARTBIO or others who have experience working with various BIOS's..

I'm not even sure I did mine right yet... I'm still trying to get a BIOS guru to bless what I did... All I can tell you at this point is you can try to seek out some help from a BIOS modder, or hit the ACPI reference pages and try to learn it enough to roll your own..
(sorry man, I am in perfect agreement with you about not wanting to trash your system.)
If I find someone(or if they find me) I will steer you their way.. If you could do the same for me I would appreciate it..

I'll keep checking this forum.. (I usually hit it from 8:30am thru 10:30am) on wed, thru, fri,
and late on Saturdays 9pm on.. Sun mon tues... anytime is possible.. as I'm off work on those days. Hopefully we can get some assistance..

Heck I wish NVIDIA would provide a bios mod service (or at least provide access to the 3rd party BIOS manufacturers) for all of us customers who have their products.. I'd be willing to pay for the bios mod if it was within reason..

I understand that these companies don't want to support 5 plus year old products, and would rather has us just buy new stuff, but if they can make some $$$ on performing a mod then, why not? I will tell you that alot of folks with older boards would be more than willing to pay for a modded bios if it got their boards working correctly.. Especially with these funky AGP cards. I feel that these folks did us a huge dis-service by putting out these AGP cards with the promise of HDMI audio, but then have them limited to working on a few specific hardware/firmware implementations. I have a case open with HIS right now, but I doubt they will provide me a solution.

I would be much more likely to go out and spend 500+ dollars on a new nvidia VGA card for one of my newer systems if they would do this bios mod for us.. but if they insist on turning a blind eye on us, then I will respond in kind with my future purchases...(including MOBOs)

I would rather spend $$$ on making what I have work, than trying to buy a new VGA or Mobo.
(I like what I have... and don't want to throw it out)

This PC of mine is just an old beater that I want to use for a few more years. Plus I like making these old dogs perform new tricks... (very rewarding experience)

If there is anyone out there who can provide us some direction, PLEASE, jump on here!
thx

Are U sure your using a correct BIOS file for your modding? (I assume you downloaded this BIOS from the motherboard support site) Is it possible that you selected a BIOS to download
that was for a PCI-E version of your MOBO?

I would have thought there should be an AGP entry in there somewhere...

ALSO - I just got a reply from ARTBIO.. I've been googling him trying to find any other forums that he may be hanging out at.. I finally tracked him down.. lol... (I feel like a stalker .. lol) Anyway he was nice enough to reply to my PM.. but I did not get a chance to
respond to him yet... (I'm on break at work right now so I won't be able to respond till later on tonight.)

If he's willing, I'll ask him to check out yer BIOS.. maybe he can provide some clues..

Just got a reply back from Artbio. You will have to go this one with another modder.. Artbio has tried helping others with Non AGP entry mobo's and has only caused more problems than solutions..

You may want to check a few things out on your mobo..
1. can the bios chip be removed?
2. Can you remove it? (even if the board is powered on?)
3. Do you have a spare bios chip laying around?

- If you mess up your bios, you can replace the chip (in some boards) with another functioning bios chip, boot up the system, remove the bios chip and replace it with your bad one, then reflash it to repair it.

I think better is no use audio from HDMI. Yes, is more cable but if i want change pc to 6-12 month better don't change if it's so trouble.

I just flashed my K8N NEO2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra mobo with the modded DSDT.BIN in it.. The entire process worked perfectly...

When I rebooted, I first went into the bios and was suprised (and concerned) to see all of the original settings in tact. This made me wonder if the flash really took hold or not... when I opened up task manager the CPU util was down to almost zero on both cores now..

It looks like the procedure resolved the problem for me.

Hi, I have a MSI Master2 FAR7 mainboard and when I Install eiteher HD3850 or HD 4670 the system doesn't boot it made just a beep and stop, no video.
Could it be becuase this card have an audio decoder that the system cannot handle?
The old X1950 works without any problem anda has 512 Mb RAM as the HD3850 and the same memory interface 256 bit.
I try to look in the BIOS but I didn't find an AGP section

Thanks

Help request for modifying DSDT table for Asus K8V-MX

Hi,

I have a AH3450 running on a K8V-MX motherboard and I have to desactivate UUA bus driver for WindowsXP.
I've seen this thread, and so far I:
- got from Asus my bios image (AMI type) : K8V-MX-ASUS-0501.ROM
- extracted 1B segment with MMTool322 into file K8V-MX-ASUS-0501.1b
- extracted the acpi table with ami_1b_splitter into file acpitbl_seg
- extracted the DSDT binary table with hex editor into dsdl.bin
- disassembled it with iasl and got the attached file dsdl.dsl.
But now I cannot find the AGP keyword, and feel unsure about how to modify this file.

So, if someone has serious knowledge about how to modify the dsl file, this would help me a lot.
Thanks,

Hi , I also have a nforce3 based mobo (K8N Neo2-Fx), could you ,please send me or attach here your modified *.dsl file.
Unfortunately my understanding isn't sufficient, all I know that it's written in C, which is clearly not sufficient, lol :D

It also seems that your mobo uses same BIOS as mine, if you could paste in modified code here, this would help me greatly!

UPD. : ok, no need I already done it myself, thanks Artbio and NCoastTweaker!

Good morning/afternoon NCoastTweaker and all.

NCoastTweaker, I was wondering if you could help me out here. I just installed an Opteron 185 dual core on my W2K machine and I am having trouble installing my HD 4670 card on my K8N Neo 2 Platinum.

Before: I had a single core, w2k, HD 4670 (using Blackwing w2k modded ATI drivers) and the K8N with a modded bios from Rebels Haven and everything worked great (though it was standard pc and not ACPI uniprocessor).
After: I installed the dual core and immediately started having problems with ACPI non-compliant errors even after reinstalling w2k.

To make a long story short I installed my previous x1950pro, the latest official K8N bios, as you have, installed the dual core, reinstalled w2k sp4, ACPI multiprocessor was enabled and finally everything worked out fine. Now, if I install the HD 4670 I get an "the bios is not ACPI compliant.....etc..." blue screen error before the OS starts loading and I can't even pick safe mode.

Do you think I have to create a bios as you have or is my problem w2k? Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

You could try running without ACPI support, if it is possible to disable it in the BIOS do that (most BIOS wont allow it)

Otherwise, during a fresh Windows 2000 or XP installation:
Press the "F5" key when the screen displays the following message: "Press F6 if you need to install a third-party SCSI or RAID driver." The screen will not mention the "F5" key, but pressing it takes you directly to the menu that regulates ACPI. The "F6" message will appear a few minutes into your typical Windows installation.

Choose the "Standard PC" option. This will install Windows without ACPI. This means that your computer will not support Sleep or Hibernation modes. You will also have to shut down your computer manually, instead of having Windows do it for you

Per Hansson, if I choose standard pc then that will make my dual core run as a single core, no? The previous modified bios I had, based on the latest official, for some reason was not ACPI compliant but it did have the setting to disable ACPI and worked. Maybe I need to try that bios again. With the latest official bios this setting is not available so I can't disable it in the bios.

Edit: When I first installed the dual cpu and the modified bios I had to choose MPS Multiprocessor PC but I couldn't use USB or onboard sound because then the x1950pro would load up with standard VGA drivers. I could also install the HD 4670 but would load up with standard VGA drivers no matter what I did. I re-downloaded the two modified bios after the last official and will try again with those and put an update here.

Thanks.

Well I updated the bios for the K8N neo 2 with a modified one based on the latest official and this bios lets me disable ACPI. I installed the HD 4670, kept ACPI enabled and it gave me the "this bios is not ACPI compliant....."blue screen after the Windows 2000 loading up splash screen. I disable ACPI in the bios, restart the computer and right when the windows 2000 loading up splash screen is going to appear the computer restarts and will continue this in an endless loop.

Again, the HD 4670 will work with a single core in this motherboard but not sure what I am missing. The computer type is ACPI mutliprocessor PC, will changing it to Advance Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC make any difference?

I hope you all can help.

Update 01/08/12: Knowing that the HD 4670 will work correctly with a single core cpu (standard PC) I disabled one core on the dual core via the boot.ini. Before reinstalling the HD 4670 I checked to see if only one core was being seen and it was. So, I reinstall the HD 4670 and I got the same symptoms as above, "bios is not ACPI compliant message" when enabled in the bios and computer automatically restarts continuously before reaching the w2k startup page when I disable ACPI in the bios. I guess the problem is the ACPI HAL or W2k. Last time, before reinstalling W2k, I had enabled MPS multiprocessor PC and the computer would boot up with the HD 4670 but I couldn't use USB nor onboard sound because then the graphic card would only load with standard VGA drivers.

I was using Win XP SP3 when I did this.
check to see if your using the latest bios... 1D0 (thats what I used, but thats for my specific MSI K8N Neo2 Plat Ms-7025 ver 1 mobo.. if your mobo is from ASUS or some other brand, then I have no
idea on how you should proceed other than visiting the mobo vendor website and getting the very latest bios version and flashing it.. - if your not already on the latest one.

I was using info provided from ARTBIO.. He's the one with the direct knowledge. I was just lucky enough to get it working due to the fact that my BIOS source was a perfect match for his example. I was so happy about it working, I decided to post what steps I did..
(sorry if I gave you the impression that I'm an expert.. I'm just your average DFU)

Sounds like w2k is incompatable with dual core cpus.. (I heard similiar issues were encountered with VISTA and AGP systems where the system would only detect the video card correctly with ONE cpu core enabled, otherwise an error code 043 or something similiar was encountered on bootup) I have never used Vista so I have no direct knowledge on this

Some boards allow you to manually adjust the IRQ's but again, I have no direct knowledge on
how to do this (if its even possible with your specific mobo)

If it were me, I'd make an image backup of your existing OS or swap in a new HDD and try
loading a WIN XP SP3 OS from scratch, then go with the special VGA drivers recommended by the
card manufacturer.. My 4670 was from HIS (ICEQ AGP model) and has a physical HDMI port on the back.

DO NOT USE THE NORMAL DRIVERS from ATI/AMD as these are intended for PCIE 4670's.
Yours s/b the AGP version.. Ditto for the BIOS, be sure the one you use as your input source
is from an AGP specific version... NOT PCIE.

When I disassembled the DSDT table of the bios, I was able to see the AGP source entries and they matched what ARTBIO had in his instructions.. If you have an ASUS version, they may have a different BIOS of their own.. (and I don't know how to code that one)

This stuff is always risky.. (you could brick your mobo) so if you don't feel confident about it, DONT DO IT. (I was willing to take the risk because I have some spare mobo's laying around. My knowledge on this is limited to my specific environment.

Good Luck!

NCoastTweaker,

Thanks for your reply. As luck would have it, last week I already tried what you suggested. I was able to buy a brand new WinXP SP3 Professional on Craiglist for cheap, made a backup of my existing OS and data, installed WinXP and right away everything configured itself correctly. I also disabled the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for HD Audio under device manager.

No matter what I tried I couldn't get W2k to work with the dual core and the HIS HD 4670 AGP. With the ATI x1950pro there was no problem.

Why exactly do you say not to use the normal ATI/AMD drivers? Right now I am using the Catalyst 11.11a performance drivers and I haven't had a problem. But then again I had first installed the 11.12 AGP hotfix drivers and maybe something got left behind from those drivers. Hmmm.

Anyways, until the next OS!

NCoastTweaker,

Anyways, until the next OS!

The 4670's came in AGP and PCI-E. I heard that the PCI-E drivers will not work right on the AGP card. I never tried using the Normal PCIE drivers on my AGP 4670 card, but it made sense to me to stay with the AGP versions.. I did this procedure on the K8N Neo2 Plat Ver 1.0 mobo.. when I dis-assembled the DSDT, the source matched ARTBIO's post perfectly.. so it was just a matter of
following the instructions... I could not get the DSDT to re-assemble without warnings when using the IASL compiler.. so I did noodle with the Microsoft ASL compiler to dis-assemble and re-assemble the DSDT table. (thats the only thing I did differently than ARTBIO)

Glad you made some progress.. Welcome to Win XP! :toast:

Just so you know, Even after I got the modded bios up and running on the NF3 MOBO, the sound would squeal and get crackely anytime the cpu % went over 80%. It was so bad that I ended up disabling the UAA audio and installing a Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite sound card.
(The sound improved and so did the framerates..)

I don't think the old AGP MOBO's are ready for HDMI audio and video on the same IRQ..
