ATIFlash won't detect my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250

Hi, I'm having some issues with ATIFlash. I'd like to dump my ATI's Bios to mod it(Overclock it). But when I execute the command: "atiflash -i", it returns "Adapter Not Found", also i tried: "ati flash -i 0", and the did the same. I have a Laptop(Compaq Presario CQ56-115dx). Also a friend of mine is having the same issue with the same card(ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250). His laptop is a HP G7 1167dx.

Isn't the HD 4250 an IGP, meaning that it is part of the chipset and doesn't have a seperate BIOS? That is probably why ATIFlash isn't detecting it.

I got a laptop, not a desktop. If I'll change my GPU, I must change my entire laptop, that is something I can't afford right now.

Welp, there's not much you can do with your integrated chip really. I don't think you're going to get any increase that would make a bit of difference. I'm sorry man.

Have you tried the AMD windows based utility..cant remember the name..
or maybe use the catalyst control centre.
Whilst not ideal the potential of harming your laptops (which can be expensive to replace)
is greatly reduced by using the software utilities..(non-permanant solutions can be better for warranty claims

I tried everything at software level, without any success, that's why I went to mod the Card's Bios, but apparently is not possible either.

I succesfully overclocked my laptop graphics with MSI Afterburner with a modded .cfg file,
I'm not sure if this is possible for your integrated graphics though. Also, I doubt you can overclock anything but the GPU clock speed. Memory speed will be locked to your system memory speed.

Also: The AMD utility craigo was probably referring to is AMD Overdrive, but sadly it doesnt support mobile hardware =('

Something else you could try:

If I recall correct, the AMD IGP clock is also based on your FSB clock. If you could overclock your FSB, with say, SetFSB(its what the software is called, you can find it at http://www13.plala.or.jp/setfsb/)
This method should also overclock your system memory, which generally also gives the IGP a nice boost.
WARNING: Use this at your own risk, you really need to make sure you know what you're doing with this software, as you could damage your hardware.

anyhoo what i am saying is this guy here is obviously a good example of someone who didnt even go trough the help file of ATI flash or its other docs before almost going to endanger the life of his gfx card, which fortunately doesnt exist.

4250 can be directly OC'd from the BIOS imo.

Possibly but GPU tool may give more options than a Bios would and of course is more dynamic as you can access it from windows "on the fly".

true. i dont think bios is viable since he is talking about a laptop. laptops usually have the overclocking thing disabled on ATI ones.

The latest version doesn't support the HD 4250, I know, my laptop has an HD 4250. Older versions might have, but I didn't try those.

Actually the zip/rar i downloaded with ATIFlash didn't came without any documentation, so I didn't know it won't work with IGPs.

I've been doing some research since yesterday and I found people who actually overclocked it, and now they're getting 35-40fps more than before. They did use AMD GPU Clock 0.9.26, but in order to do the same, I have to install some other drivers (not official catalyst). Currently I'm working on it so see what happens.

yea i dunno about 30-45fps more... I had the desktop igp model 4250 and OC to 950mhz... most games it hardly made a difference, however it did let me run starcraft 2 with low with a couple more basic features at med.

It did ok with CnC Generals, but still lagged.

Btw, I've got some news, I have done Oc sucessfuly using AMD GPU Clock. I've got some improvement in some games like Garry's Mod for example, I used to have 25-30fps on everything on high except antialasing and v-sync, and now I get 35-40! It's not big deal, but it's something!
