Modern day shooters bore me and are incredibly played out, like how WW2 themed shooters had been played out before them.

I would welcome a return to a WW2 themed shooter, but now with the vehicles and everything else that we've been able to introduce in the convening years since BF1942. I need landing craft, and tanks and beach invasions and such again. Also El Alamein!

I am pretty sure the WW(II) theme is not going to happen (ever) because the game has to appeal to as many players as possible. Make it WW and 80% will not buy it. People want modern (but not fucked up borderline sci-fi like CoD) shooters and for a good reason.

If you want historical shooter game, go download Heroes & Generals. It's not too bad and it's free.

I recall reading that a WWII theme shooter is not viable these days, simply because most people do prefer unlocks. Now we can go the CoD route and implement a bunch of things that make reloading magically fast, kill streaks, and add lasers and red dots to our weapons but then it isn't true to WWII is it? And it will come off as trashy. And most people don't want to use bolt action rifles. Take Germany for example, essentially zero self loading weapons were issued to infantry until later years. For most of the war they were using rifles/SMGs picked off of dead Soviets. I don't think that is appealing to most people. Now, again, they can go the CoD route and give every other player an MP40 or STG-44 but then that isn't replicating the WWII experience much.

I think WWII works for more realistic games where unlocks and a larger player base isn't obtainable anyways.

That is because they were support for the MG34/42 and that was tha main firepower for medium and long range.
I say it again the Cold War period would be more interesting than sc fi modern stuff or WW2, and you could implement attachments and weapon modding.

I'd take Cold War over WWII or sci fi, but there isn't much in the way of attachments in the 80s-91. One thing I do hope they change is if there are many accessories if you can choose which one you unlock next.

BF3 was great, BF4 should have been an update/expansion to BF3 imo, the game is too similar. Hardline killed it for me, like how COD and AC killed it when they chose quantity over quality.

Although I am looking forward to seeing BF5(seeing references to BF2142 in those pictures), there's only a very low chance that I will buy it and play it on release

I am sort of with you there. I loved the whole series until I hit Hardline and that destroyed it for me. But it will be great to get into BF5 if it lives up to the hype!
