EA-DICE' upcoming online shooter Battlefield 4 will take advantage of DirectX 11.1 API, on PCs running Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Running the game with DirectX 11.1 will have a positive performance impact compared to running it on DirectX 11.0, or on older operating systems like Windows 7 (which doesn't support DirectX 11.1). In the words of the technical director behind Frostbite, the underlying engine for Battlefield 4, "We use DX11.1, there are some optimizations in it (constant buffer offsets, dynamic buffers as SRVs) that we got in to the the API that improves CPU performance in our rendering when one runs with DX11.1." This could give Radeon HD 7000 series GPUs an edge over their GeForce competitors. GPUs based on NVIDIA's "Kepler" micro-architecture don't fully support DirectX 11.1. Incidentally, Battlefield 4 was just bagged and tagged by AMD for its future "Never Settle" bundle. Join the dots.

Join the dots.

Half Life 3 CONFIRMED!

Haha, anyways... I hope the new Never Settle bundle includes a new generation Radeon card to go with it. I wonder if we'll see some sort of DX 11.1 benchmark that utilizes these new features before BF4 is out.

Having to suffer Windows 8 is not worth that .1.

to my understanding kepler only did not include dx 11.1 feature that are not related to gaming. so i don't think kepler based card will have a problem with this. anyway we will know for sure when the game finally comes out.

talking about never settle bundle what other triple A games they will include aside form BF4 for the upcoming bundle?

Noob question : If I have a 7000 series card will I get the cods for the new bundle "Join the dots" :respect: or you must buy a new card ? I'm very new to this .

Bring it to mobiles!

:toast:

I read that it will have ROME 2 TOTAL WAR :rockout: and Watch Dogs / Lost Planet 3 this info is from Tom so I don't know if it's correct .

Most of the 11_1 specification not supported is Direct2D orientated but not all it would seem. For a better overview, BeHardware posted this article a while ago that covers quite a bit of the API - both 2D and 3D.

Should be fun seeing these added to a benchmark suite after the AMD Army inundated review threads railing against Lost Planet 2 and the relevancy of the inclusion of Total War: Shogun 2.

Totally not worth it. 1 Month of Windows 8 on my new laptop was all I could endure. Even after learning all the tricks of this crap version of Windows, it it just INCONVENIENTLY designed for touch screens and Apple-like simplicity.

I smell Marketing BS...

Btw, they can keep the schmit called Win8...

dear devs, can we stop using D3D and move on to OpenGL so that microsofts can't keep forcing us to buy a new crappy OS for 10% performance difference? :shadedshu

Well, judging by what we know now:

  • GRID 2 is out and its not a Gaming Evolved title
  • COH2 is out and it's not in the program either
  • Splinter-Cell is a TWIMTBP game
  • Battlefield 4 is the only GE title there
  • Thief is also a GE title but is not on the list

So I think we can safely ignore it and finally call it a hoax.

There must be a ton of fish spoils near where those guys are fighting...

Gaming Evolved is made just for dirty playing.

Seem to remember not long ago AMD complained about a game that supported a version of directx that nvidia cards had but amd cards lacked. Pretty sad for AMD to whine about something then turn around and do same thing. Hypo critic's much? it was like DX 10.2 or something.

Win 8's only major problem is it's a little more unstable atm, that will be fixed, Win 7's biggest problem is it's slow and bloated.

Wow .. omg ... That may be the single funniest comment, that I have read in the past 30 years. My sides hurt .. I cant stop laughing ....

Nope... There is no 10.2, You are thinking of 10.1
And once again Nvidia is behind the curve.

Nvidia had UBI pull 10.1 support from assassins creed.

not to worried about it. Not like it'll make Nvidia setups completely unplayable.

Nvidia has been doing that just fine on their own with driver releases lately.

that's something that can be fixed where as a game that is coded a certain way can't really be fixed regardless of drivers or anything else, but drivers can help.

Both AMD and NVIDIA will maximize their fps numbers for BF$(4) through numerous driver updates. I guess I'm not concerned that AMD or NVIDIA has 1.0 fps more at the end of the day, only that the game runs fast as heck.

Well if AMD started the Never Settle they must do something to come on top :toast: .

I just want Rome 2 Total War :pimp: and BF4 :respect:

will AMD include non Gaming Evolve title in their Never Settle Bundle? AFAIK Grid 2 is sponsored by Intel (which is a rare sight since Codemaster usually partner up AMD for their games). as other has mention Splinter Cell Blacklist, Watch Dogs and Lost Planet 3 will be nvidia title.

from the latest info AMD adding a few more title to their Gaming Evolved program but i don't know if this title will be included in the future bundle:

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Final Fantasy XIV
Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded
Murdered: Soul Suspect
Pirate 101
Shadow of the Eternals
Thief

Kepler supports all of the DX11.1 features which are required for DX11.1 games so don't worry.
