Best 24" Monitor

1080 is an option. And as far as the odd res, i haven't had any issues.

1920x1080 is 16:9 and 1920x1200 is 16:10, different aspect ratio. I went from a 22" 1680x1050 to a 25" 1920x1080 and it feels like the top of my monitor is missing. I wish that I spent a few more dollars on a 16:10.

i use 1800x1200 on my 21.6" and i love it, lots of desktop space. So i imagine 1920x1200 is even better. and yea after using this res for bout 3 weeks now, i went to 1680x1050 and it seems somewhat small now lol

The thing about non-TN panels - when you buy one, you never go back.

However, for someone who's never seen S-PVA/S-IPS in their life, I'd have to say that a monitor such as the 226BW is as close as it gets. In regards to 24-inchers, just get the best one by Samsung or LG.

But yes, you're not going to be upset with anything you buy unless you have something to compare it to.

It's always going to be like that.

I went from 1024x768 to 1920x1200 to 2560x1600 and finally 4960x1600.

I can't use anything lower now, and the point of it all is to pace yourself. Go one resolution at a time, so that you can enjoy every single step up.

um how did you manage that godly resolution? i c in your specs you have + between each monitor, if you spread that resolution over those monitors, doesn't the inch or 2 inbetween each screen get annoying?

I really looked into that when I thought of the all-famous triple-monitor setup. And it truly doesn't matter, just as everyone out there would have you believe. I also like how it's spreads apart the three monitors, so that I can have one monitor running one ap, another run a second and if I want to go full-screen, I have three places to do that.
I also checked if it's possible to take the black borders off, and apparently it isn't. One day, I'll get a custom-made single monitor, 37"+ and an even higher resolution.
Until then.. this is the single greatest monitor setup in the world, even if it had every flaw imaginable.

haha no dout, hum i'm betting that custom monitor would cost an arm and a leg lol, 2560x1600 is the highest public yet, though i see workstation graphic cards that support 3840x2600 or some crazy shits, so there has to be a display somewhere that offers higher than 2560x1600.(woo hoo 1k posts, got me 7th star :))

imperialreign, does the T240 come without the touch of color at all?

not that I'm aware of . . .

TBH, as much as I don't personally like the slight cherry "color" of the surround, TBH, it's not overly noticeable unless in a bright room . . .

although, not to be took picky, but the finish does stick out like a sore thumb if it doesn't "match" your desk or it's surrounding environment.

Wow, congrats man! :toast:

If anyone deserves it, it's you.

i would get the 24inch 1920*1200 BENQ 2ms

not all . . . it's all down to the build quality of the display.

Sure, TN panels don't always measure up, but, there are superb monitors out there that make being able to tell the difference very difficult.

Besides, it's mainly down to personal preference as well . . . sure, most TN panels are either over-bright or over saturated, don't have as wide of a viewing angle, have a slow response time . . . but there are some that have superb color balance, quick response time, and a respectable viewing angle.

As it stands, who really needs a a large viewing angle? The majority of us site practically in-front of the display anyhow . . .

I personally recommend anyone shopping for a new display, though, to spend some time at local stores seeing some in person . . .

Samsung are great panels. I personally use a T240, which is, IMHO, one of the better 24" TN panels available. It has superb color balance and excellent contrast . . . excellent response as well (I've never noticed any ghosting with this display).
No, Tn-Films actually respond faster than IPS or M/PVA panels, but every single Tn-Film panel is actually a 6bit panel, which means they can only produce 262k colors natively. Companies use a control trick called dithering, to get them to achieve the 16+ million colors. And viewing angles are so bad on Tn-Film panels, that you can actually see the contrast differences at the edges of the screen by viewing it directly, on a panel as large as a 24", from a short distance away. Put a solid color across the whole screen, to see what I mean.

Not a single Tn-Film panel on the market can come close to approaching the color quality of a true 8bit panel, even if you use a calibrator on both. It's very easy to differentiate an average PVA or IPS panel from even the best Tn-Film.

Now, that said, you just aren't likely to find a 24" M/PVA or IPS panel for his price range. To buy new, his only choice is Tn-Film. There are some decent models out there, but they still pale in comparison to the other panels. If it were me, I'd look for a used M/PVA or IPS based panel instead. Something like a used Dell Ultrasharp 2408-WFP or along those lines.

I have been using the 215TW by Samsung ( S-PVA ) for almost 4 years now and i have yet to find a single TN monitor that can compare to it. I even got my hands on a expensive TN 26inch monitor a few days ago and soon afterwards i took it down and placed the 215TW again although it is 4 inches less. There is just no comparison.

I'm just debating right now on the TOC or not.
Other thing is... Definitely want to go with 2ms.

If you can see a difference between 2ms and 6ms i am buying beers :)

^true dat

i read most 2ms response ratings are just GTG and the 5ms are BTB? or something like that so most 2ms are actually the same as the 5ms. could be wrong but that's what i remember reading in an article, and a respected TPU member also mentioned something along those lines once.

I just made the jump to 24" myself. Ditching my old Viewsonic VG2030WM for a Samsung T240.

All i can say is WOW! Bigger, Cleaner, Crisper and the DVI works on this one. :rockout:

Wow nice Hanns-G, 27.5" @ 1900*1200 for $330 shipped! Nice freakin deal!

you kno i here everyone saying how TN are poor quality and whatnot, but i just found out that my viewsonic is a TN panel, and it looks very nice to me, course i would need to see a S-IPS/PVA to tell the difference, but if you haven't seen one of those panels then i'd recon the TN will look fine to you. Mine looks sharp, no ghosting, and color wise it is fine as well. The black isn't really that deep(judging from black bars when watching movies) but i'm not too worried bout that lol.

TN is better for gamming IMO...

Yea the 27.5" is an awesome deal! :D

nice 27.5...

I just thought 24 inches is going to be a lot... but 27.5 geez

bigger = better no? :D also 1k reviews 5 egg average

I can't imagine sitting infront of that.. I feel like my eye balls would fall out and I would have to move my head from left to right when gaming or something

take a foot more in distance then :D 27.5" isn't that huge... lemme measure...

Tempting.. but might have to stick with the 24''
