Best program for music playback?

I recently formatted and finally got rid of god awful Vista and switched over to Windows 7 x64.

With this new switch, I'm also looking to switch my program that I use for music playback.

I used to use Winamp but really don't care too much for it anymore...

Looking for some suggestions please.

I've always like itunes. They have a solid equalizer and sound enhancer as well as a nice way of organizing everything.

windows media player is the only solid piece of hardware. Winamp isnt too bad, but its best not to load your computer with a bunch of crap.

There are no problems with Windows Media Player from a software or audio quality standpoint whatsoever. You know what's really nice about it? It's made specifically for your operating system!

Yep if I was you I'd just use wmp. Plus it fits in with the OS perfectly.

Works with my iPod
streams well
has plugins/codecs for EVERYTHING

the 64-bit version can have codec issues
dont likke the interface with audio (personal pref)

i also hear foobar is a good (free) alternative

My Favourites are:
- AIMP - russian Winamp analog, but it doesn't have any useless fancy addons.
- Foobar2000. The best audioplayer ever! I'm using it for almost 5 years. Supports all audio formats, has tons of addons + SDK, needs much less system resources than any mediaplayer i ever saw.

+1 for splitting time between winamp and wmp. I do the exact same thing. I think winamp is great for audio playing but the video player and its seperate window system is a little wonky. WMP's video playback seems more natural and seems to be what it was designed for in the first place. To answer the OP's question it just boils down to your personal preference and what seems to be a better fit for you in the end.

WMP, winamp, and vlc are my top picks. Winamp for working with my kboard and ipod, wmp for integration with the task bar and vlc for being light on resources and could play almost anything.

I use Winamp for music and WMP for video.

I also like the DSP plugins that Winamp has, I have mine tuned quite nicely! Oh and MediaMonkey to manage everything.

I use MediaMonkey doesn't take that many resources, plays pretty much any codec, its an open source player and ppl make a crap ton of nifty addons for it, plus its pretty user friendly & customizable

WinAmp FTW! Someone earlier stated it'll load your PC with a bunch of junk, well if you pay attention during install you can bypass that extra junk and never worry about it. WinAmp is a bit more of a resource hog than WMP, I use both quite a bit...just depends on what I happen to open up at the time...I do like the 24-bit option in WinAmp, and I've used it for so many years I still enjoy using it. Plus there's a ton of skins and mods for winamp, all sorts of goodies, imho it's still one of the best out there.

Windows media Player 11 is all I need; pretty decent performance and easy to use. I like it's library organization too.

VLC for videos, ofcourse.

I cycle between iTunes and WMP. I know people who swears to Winamp though, maybe because it has customisable skin.
