I hope this thread doesn't get ignored like my last one did. Anyroad, Bit-Tech have another preview of an X58 motherboard, this time Gigabyte's extrovert GA-EX58-Extreme.

We've seen X58 boards from Asus and MSI already, but now Gigabyte has sent us its X58 to scrutinise. The 0.2 revision we received in the post was minus final heatpipes though, and for the Extreme model we have here we expect them to be... well, Extreme, in typical Gigabyte fashion.

Instead of pursuing the idea of fancy looks and very niche overclocking features, Gigabyte is maintaining the status quo once again, even if this is the "Extreme" model. We've got to be honest though - since the Extreme has become the new DQ6, what significance does the DQ6 have? Or then the 5 for that matter? It's difficult to ascertain what market each is designed for because the differences are so slight.

Are you like me and aesthetics play apart for you when choosing a motherboard? Eitherway, it's good preview.

Enjoy!

It's a pity that they didn't see fit to show us their heatpipe system, as yes aesthetics do play a role.

I do focus on looks, but it's never as important as features and performance.
I just wish they would lose the crayon colours!:ohwell:

The board uses a waterblock, and also comes with an add-in heatsink cooler card based on their multi-core sink found on their passive cards. Also, the color of those pink ram slots has been changed to white. (top pic only to show the block)

Yeah, but doesn't leaving you wanting more, right? ;) As in to come back and read the actual review. Aesthetically....

... I wish they'd lose the colours as well, yeah it's not important if the board owns, I could live with it - just. I'm, if like, boring and like my colour schemes to not clash.

Aesthetics play a major role in choosing parts for me. With so many boards and cards (especially cards) that all perform pretty much the same, I want it to at least look nice and have a good layout. I mean like, x58 is an x58; yeah there's different bios, but they're all high-end boards and the same chipset so you can expect performance to be in the same ballpark for most of 'em. And with video cards there's even less difference that affects performance aside from oc's which you can do on your own anyways.

I don't mind all the weird colors sometimes; it's a nice break from the usual "extreme" "hardxcore" all-black stuff (not that black pcb's aren't sexy).

I especially like DFI's use of brighter colors. I really want to build a case out of legos and put a DFI LP board with yellow slots in it and two palit cards with the yellow coolers

Hit the nail on the head! Nice one! :rockout:

Yeah, DFI's work well even though they do have... excessively (for want of a better word) bright colour schemes. The reason why I prefer them to the excessively bright Gigabytes is the fact they don't class.

lol, theJesusLizard

DFI's look nice because they're really well organized with 2-3 colors that match well. Gigabyte boards just look like a bunch of different colors and shit thrown on top of a blue pcb; they look like children's toys.
