What? What do you mean? I insured it when I shipped it? so the post office is responsible for the damage.

That is real sh1t,someone needs a kicking for that.Good job you had insurance on it.

I have never heard of that happening in the uk,but the biggest distance to ship in the uk is nowhere near what it is in the usa.I dont think the uk is anywere near 2000 miles from end to end.

i always tell everyone not to ship USPS, thats y i dont ship with them . Always UPS , Fedex Ground also screws up a lot of times .

ya and i think it should be if they break it they owe you the total for parts and plus insurance, because you placed insurance on it for them to take care in delivering the 'dise.

Well the USPS are refusing to accept the claim, as they are saying it was improperly packaged, and some other bullsh*t... :banghead:

So now I'm helping my friend salvage the computer, sofar it seems everything is going to be ok except the case, PSU, and motherboard.

I bought a new motherboard and PSU out of my own pocket for my friend and told him he owes me nothing:cool:, its the least I could do as he seemed very depressed the other day when I talked to him.

I'm going to help him reasible the computer over the phone, and try to help him out as much as possible. He's not computer illiterate and he HAS installed a video card before so he should be ok.

Thanks, but suing them will only cost me more. The new Mobo and PSU only cost me 100$, and suing them would cost me 1000's$.

of course they will refuse to give you the money they owe you. Im sorry to say this but you are going to have to argue with them for quite a bit before they approve the claim but this is how big companies work. I know i wouldnt give up after being royally screwed like this

Keep pushing re the insurance. Claim denial is often the first automatic response of any insurance claim, regardless of fault. They would rather not pay out. A mate of mine works as a senior manager for an insurance firm in Australia, and he tells me some shockers about how they block legit claims.

Check all the fine detail in the insurance contract, is there any real basis to their claim denial, find out also what your consumer affairs office is, being in Australia I have no idea how your US one works but here it can be very effective.

Keep hassling the pricks and take it further up the chain, annoy, annoy and annoy, in the end make them want to get rid of you, easiest way to do that is for them to pay up.

this kind of thing happens with all carriers that ship lots of packages everyday

however i do recommend using UPS. thats all they do (PO also does regular mail) and usually have good C.S. in the event something like this occurs

i know your friend said use the post office...but i only use them for small stuff and letters. not for big stuff that can break



EDIT: i see they are denying your claim at the P.O. keep pressing. what constitutes "improperly packaged?"

i believe you PAID for the insurance. so they are legally bound to make payment unless they can prove you were negligent. make them prove it...tell them you package things EXACTLY the same for other carriers and NEVER have had this problem.

must be some recourse you can take. insist all was proper and make them PROVE it wasn't. you have insurance!!

i have a relative who works for the post office. a long time, and a mail handler, too. so they know how to handle packages and what not. i'll ask them what the story is when something like this happens. if i find anything out that might be useful to you i'll post back up

As someone who has a lot of experience shipping various electronics for customers I will have to say that if you care about it there is no other choice than sending it FedEx.


This is the truth!! I deal with UPS, Fed Ex, DHL, And USPS everyday. The way I have seen stuff handled by UPS especially is a crime. I ALWAYS go Fed Ex for that reason.

The reason I had to ship it to him is because he is in Michigan and I'm in Nevada 2000miles =/

The post office takes the package and all inside of it when you claim for the insurance I think. =/

cant you take somethings out of it and just say thats what was in there before you shipped it, like take out the ram,gpu, and cpu, but leave the hs/f over where the cpu should be and leave everything else in the case. i dought they have ppl examine stuff to make sure everything is in it.

last time i orderd from newegg it was and has always been ups ground (cheepest) and only takes one day to get here (CT), when the UPS guy came to my door the first thing he said was "f*cking *ss dam*it this package is f*cking heavy", and it only weighed 10lbs. and the box had a small minor dent in it and was poorly taped, air and water could easily get in the box if it had the chance.
