Hello,

i've 27 gb total in c drive.
OS - Windows vista home premium

I have usually 4-5 gb free before, but sometimes due to itunes library it was decreased much so i shifted itunes library to other partition.

then also i had around 4 gb free usually..

but from yesterday , i dont know y, it's showing only 2-20mb free , i've deleted all temp files and run disk clean up to delete error and dump report files..

any solution y it's consuming space of my partition like cancer in body?

i've not installed anything new and not even copied/downloaded any thing to c drive..

just watched movies (which are also on other partition) & surfing internet as usuall..nothing new..

any diagnosis & solution?

thx..

Try to disable your page file (note that all my experience is in XP, so no guarantees).

Hmmm.... search your c: drive for ".mkv" or ".avi" or other file extensions your movies are usually in. You might have slipped with the hand and done a drag and drop.

i've already did that months ago...

chked again..system restore is off already..but how to chk for backup?

just found..

C:\Users\******\AppData\Roaming

this folder is >=3gb

is it necessary?

C:\Users\******\AppData\Roaming\IDM\DwnlData\******

this is also >=1.5GB

i scheduled to download some files in internet download manager yesterday night..some files are yet to be downloaded..but i kept download path on other partition..
does it matter?

shd i delete files in this folder or wait for download completion tonight and then chk again?

thx..

Delete them and re-download them one at a time, making sure they go to the correct download path on the other partition.
I think it's a cache, but a cache shouldn't be that big, unless it's like 50 files you're downloading?

if you have no back up apps, skip it
have you checked the size of windows folder and programs folder
try to show hidden files or folder that you may have

Yea don't delete the C:\Users\******\AppData\Roaming folder, just delete the CONTENTS of

C:\Users\******\AppData\Roaming\IDM\DwnlData\***** *

Just delete the files, not the folder. Sorry for that, been up all night...

If i remember right download manager will try to hash files before downloading and although u havent actualy downloaded anything the hash file will be the same size as the file you want to download.

Hope that makes sense just woke up need me coffee.

You need to separate your data from your OS. This is good practice for several reasons, including making proper backups. Always have your data on a separate partition or hard drive and back it up every night to another drive, not just another partition.

Clear out your temp files with a utility such as ATF Cleaner and increase the size of the C drive partition.

Never used tune up utilities, but spacesniffer will show you a visual treemap and all you need to do is click on the biggest square to find out which file/folder they are.

some games put savegames and such in the appdata folders - IDM is your download manager, so thats where your incomplete downloads are hiding.

So you are making backups, but you should always keep your primary data on another partition at least and another hard disc instead is better; it's good practice which helps to prevent data loss.

The advice that Mussels gave you about the game saves is probably why you're running low on disc space - do take his advice. Finally, you shouldn't be running a Windows install on such a small partition nowadays anyway, not when 2TB hard discs are so cheap.
