Can I overclock an AMD Athlon XP?

I have this older processor in my computer which I can't afford to swap out at this point. I was wondering if it would be possible to overclock my AMD Athlon XP 2600+ currently running at 2.1 Ghz?

If so, how would I go about this?

well have fun w/ that its alot to read but a good guide overall (i ran a xp 2000+) it ran great right up till the day the s.o.b. just decided to die no o/c no nuttin stupid thing o well hope you have better luck cause there ummm getting expensive so o/c spareingly.

Its a lot to read, but not knowing what your doing can cause just that. ^^

Something was probably done incorrectly

I've had numerous AXP's run overclocked for YEARS and are still running without a hitch...

Even athlon XP's I've run over 2.3v through. :eek:

2,1 is near to max on a athlon xp 2,3 should be the limit with normal cooling

A-XPs have a limit of about 2.6GHz on average depending on the stepping. I'm guessing he has a t'bread, which should do 2.5GHz, notbad from an old dog

His ram will limit him tho, he needs at least some semi decent PC3200 that will clock a bit.

The only bad thing is that my 2500+ overheated (!) like a volcano. Nowadays I would have guessed the motherboard was bad (NF7-s 2.0), but I didn't knew better back in those days..

The record is ~3.6ghz on a barton using LN2..

Having done 3.0 on air, a 3ghz AXP gets slaughtered by a 2.2ghz A64 of any sort. :shadedshu

After 2500mhz, the AXP design is so bottlenecked by lack of bandwidth from ram and cache that it slows to a crawl when it comes to scaling.

i wouldnt say its completely over, if you got a AXP on a board that did 250FSB and some BH5 i think you could see 5.5GB\s maybe, i dont think thats bad at all, who knows, might be more than 5.5gb\s @ 3GHz. shame ppl couldnt club together to make an ultimate AXP system.

no, its no contest even at 3.6ghz and 280fsb vs an a64. period.
