Can't enable UEFI in the bios

Just thinking about system harmony (if such a thing exists).
No such thing. I'm using a Ryzen 5 3600 w/ GTX 690 and GTX 650 Ti BOOST, with Intel Optane. No problems.

I checked my spare GT610 1GB with no UEFI support, and it works fine on my VR system with windows 11.
Only issue is a black screen until windows loads, since it's got no UEFI support.

If reinstalling windows scares you so much, you need to think about why you want this upgraded GPU for UEFI support - because installing to GPT and UEFI will require a reinstall.

I go to effort with my systems to make reinstalls faster, it took me 40 minutes to do a clean install of W11, link to my desktop/download/user folder on my D: drive, and login to my programs. I had all installers for my programs ready to go on that same drive, and have a dedicated USB drive just for windows installs. Consider planning for that situation now, to avoid your nightmare later?

Same here. all drivers/prog installers/docs/and app data folder backed up on my D: drive, inc steam ready to go, win 11 on my usb stick, less than 50 mins and back up with all drivers, progs and steam sorted.

This is my PSU. Found this spare lead. I'm assuming this should allow any 6/8 pin graphics card?
(Don't judge the cable management :P)

Yes, any 6/8 pin should work

It's a low wattage PSU in a case that doesnt look great for airflow, so dont get anything high wattage - ask for advice if you're not sure

As i said a RX460, 560, HD 7700, HD 7850...

For that price, run for the hills.
GPU prices cannot possibly be this bad, i keep seeing stuff on facebook locally here in aus for far less.

If you're getting shafted that hard, at least get shafted with warranty

And if you need gaming performance as well, these aren't terrible

The low profile card is made for extremely compact PC's and may have slightly lower performance than a full size card, but it also means it'll handle the weak PSU and cooling of your system well. It doesnt even need external power.

If you want me to I could try to figure out if UEFI was possible. If, I'd require a copy of your BIOS

if that's the problem then it's solved, you don't need to worry about it, all the w11 requirements have been bipased already, people have installed it in 10 year old potatos.
It wont install on mine hehe

This looks like there's items available.

Buy MSI GeForce GT 1030 D4 Low Profile OC 2GB [GT1030-2GD4-LP-OC] | PC Case Gear Australia

Any opinion about the above?

Also, is this one UEFI compatible?

Btw, how do you check if a GPU is UEFI compatible?

If you want me to I could try to figure out if UEFI was possible. If, I'd require a copy of your BIOS
Now how do i send you this?

I can certainly follow, if you can guide me...

So sorry for my ignorance...

If not already, download GPU-Z from here ...............

GPU-Z Graphics Card GPU Information Utility (techpowerup.com)

Open GPU-Z up and you can save a copy of your Bios as shown here ........................

And yes, if you googled say "is GT1030 UEFI compatible" it would likely tell you it is.

Ask him if he would come here to do his work, we once in a blue moon need GOP updates on bios.

@Mussels testifies on this.

I found it, it is a very old bios as there are others from 2015 and 2017. If anything Id mod 1 2015 bios as the 2017 bios only have samsung ram.

First step is to save your old Bios. Can be done with CPU-Z. Check the size. Oft it is 1228 MB original greater it may work. With 64 MB no chance.
pm me when done

Just a thought...
Would it be better if I changed the chip to an APU like AMD Ryzen 5 3400G?
Thinking I'd be able to use the motherboard's output if I switched.
Thoughts?

Yes, but be warned the 3000 series APU's are a lot slower than the versions without a GPU

A 4000 (OEM only, check ebay etc) or 5000 series G chip would be an upgrade, and add the GPU in

Why don't you try to find some elder graphics card like R5, R7 or R9?
They can be flashed to support GOP and don't cost you a fortune.
As long as you don't go for e-"sports" they should do.

I would grap gt 1030 (GDRR5), gtx 1050 or rx560 as you have already upgraded to new cpu I would not spend on another cpu.

Ordered GT 1030. Thank you @Mussels for the website. And thank you to all who contributed to this thread. Will share pics once it arrives and is installed.

Gt 1030 with GDRR4 or GDRR5?
That and also from which producer?
I hope you will but from a known producer.

It'll likely be the PCCasegear link above, the MSI 1030 ITX, looks like DDR4
he didnt get the card for gaming. so it shouldnt matter

It's down to $129Au at centrecom, which is amazing in this shortage...

Definitely not for gaming (I don't think I've ever played a PC game other than Prince of Persia in MS Dos - remember the green screen? Maybe not..)
Got game consoles in the house for the kids.
This is me just me... A simple guy... 9to5 kinda guy, running some spreadsheets...
(Sorry to all the hardcore gamers in the forum)..

MSI GeForce GT 1030 D4 Low Profile OC 2GB

This is what I got...

In other words, you got the right GPU for your needs

And if you ever upgrade (For the kids or whatever) they make a fantastic spare for testing purposes

Good choice mate.

Guess what came in the mail today?

IMG_20211102_123350.jpg

Photo 2: Comparing it to the old one.

Photo 3: Installed...

now, back to q1...
  1. How do i enable UEFI?
  2. Secure boot? yes?? no??
  3. Anything else i need to do in BIOS?
    • Is there a quicker way to get to BIOS without restarting and pressing DEL??
  4. Would i need to reinstall Windows 10?
  5. Any link to the forum which may guide me step by step?
I feel now is where the painful stuff begins...
