well i can understand why people didn't make the move to a DX10 platform, I personally think vista failed . . . hard, xp was out for 5 to 6 years before vista alone, and vista has only been out for about 3 and is being replaced, . . . sure its the users fault also, everything about vista's launch was just screwed up, the marketing failed, totally failed.

to push an OS as solid as 7 and make DX11 really fly they need to market the OS better and show what it can really do and DX11 is a considerable upgrade from DX10, they need to show this to casual users.

The bad thing was the people saying oh . . . vista is garbage and Mac users exploited that and said it more and more and more then the dumb windows users followed the Mac users opinions like idiots and added to horror.

marketing definitely needs to be done well, and the main draw back bout vista was it plain sucked at first. Windows 7 is more like vista SP2+ with some nice OS changes that i've heard like not hogging as many resources as vista. It runs better and looks better, so i see no reason for it not to be a success. Vista just had shit compatibility at launch that's why it failed, but 7 is almost as compatible as vista is right now and will be just as very quick. Windows 7 i see being a success, dx11 however i don't see being used for bout 8 months to a year.

The good thing that I heard about Direct X 11 is that it will be for both Vista and Windows 7. That is excellent news for game makers as they now know that if they make a game using the Direct X 11 api, that it will work on both platforms. It's also bad news for XP's survival in the not so far future, as Direct X 9 support slowly fades away, as well as 32 bit versions of games.

it'll be like directx8 then dx8 wasn't out long before dx8.1 and then followed by dx9 (a,b, and c respectively) similar situation here and we all had to upgrade to get all of the benefits. if everyone does go to 7 I see directx 11 being another dx9 as it'll work on the older platform (vista) and include a bunch of new features that will actually stand out to even the average gamer. *waits for dx10 lovers flame war*

Well what we all have to realize is that through the different versions of DX, some have been more popular than others. Some have introduced a lot more features than others and gained more momentum in the development community. It always shifts from version to version; DX4 was never even released. DX10 was supposed to be a big huge deal, same with Vista, but obviously this has been a miscalculation and it looks like it will be Windows 7 and DX11 that are gonna be the big deals. There's nothing wrong with that, this has been happening for well over a decade.

The 4850X2 is my last DX10.1 card. My next one is gonna be a HD 5800, might even go for an X2 or X4 but probably not.

yea, dx10 isn't going anywhere, we've already seen all it can do mostly, or all developers will do with it, i'd like to see games being made just DX11 and DX9 since DX10 cards still work with DX11.

well dx10 didn't have much appeal over 9, especially since on some games you could enable the dx10 effects on dx9, which is probably why alot of of devs prioritize their teams to dx9, but, remember playing games with older cards and your card didn't support the dx required, that sucked . . . abysmal performance if it even worked

yea, but dx10 has been out for what now? 3 years, i honestly think they should do away with dx9 support, i mean computers that you buy now at stores even come with dx10 compatible cards anyways, though they suck and are usually like HD 2400PRO, and if they don't have a card, they usually have IGP's that are dx10 compatible. won't play anything but low IQ though :p

DX10 is a lot better than DX9, devs just didn't want to take any chances since a lot of stingy bastards who still used XP would kill sales. <--- THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.

Yep, if games were built around dx10 we would be seeing better performance in dx10 than dx9 but no....devs had to be lazy and code around dx9 then add more shit code to make it dx10

at any rate due to the fact they let xp go for so long most users were reluctant to move from it thus currently for a gaming company to work only in directx10 they would be say F-off to 60-70% of their potential buyers. not a very good busness model for profitability. lol if you want to blame someone blame m$ if they would ahve enabled dx10 on xp developers would only have programmed for it. I eman seriously directx 9.0c support came for windows 98se, nt, and 2000 after it was released for xp.

whats going to happen is they're adding in a compatibility mode.

Basically, they can make a DX11 game and features simply wont enable depending on hardware support.

Think of it like crysis, except the one .exe runs DX10 and DX9 at the same time - you simply choose the "DX10" or "DX11" options in game, and if your card cant do it, then its greyed out.

no one knows for sure how they will work. That may be up to the game developer to implement, and we all know how modern games are with 'optional' features (cough DX10.1)

at least DX11 will force nvidia to make new cards besides the Mid range cards besides the G92's

yeah i'm getting sick of re-releases.

At least i know my crossfire will keep me 60 FPS+ for a year or so :)

Am I right in saying,
Windows xp = DX9
Vista = DX10
Windows 7 = DX11

If so, then doesn't this show a pattern. Windows xp was a good success and came out with DX9 which most games are coded around currently. Vista came out with DX10, now this may just be my personal view but I think vista failed, and saying it came out with DX10 which compared to DX9 i believe failed also because i feel that developers saw that Vista failed therefore DX10 will not take off. But now that Windows 7 is here and we can all see that the progression on the OS compared to Vista is far super-ea, then wouldn't this mean that DX11 will be a success also? After all, i wouldn't like to release a good operating system and not include the newest DX with it, as even more people would wounder why DX10 is not being used to it's full potential.

If I am wrong about the first few lines then forget the paragraph Lol :laugh:

wrong. XP came out with DX8.1.
DX9 was added in later.
