Can't wait for DX11 hardware?

Ah, I see why people are annoyed that they aren't just doing it like they did with xp. Hmm I have mixed feelings about this.
The thing that annoys me, is that i have just put a lot of my money into a new system and all i have to upgrade now is my Gfx card. I really want to get a GTX260(216) right now, but i still have that thought in the back of my head that says "You have just spent all that money on a fast pc, and i want it to be top notch, so why should i buy a gfx card that i can't get full modern potential out of?"

Does anyone else feel like this?

DX11 is supposed to fix that.

Remember what i said before about disabled features: at the moment if a game came out in DX10, you NEED vista and you NEED DX10 hardware to run it.

Under DX11, you can run vista or 7 - and DX9, 10, or 11 hardware.


The difference this time, is that you dont need the hardware - you can run the game just fine, with disabled features.

Has anyone got any idea on when the DX11 cards are coming out? I have read that AMD are bringing one out in July I believe. And any names of the cards or specifications?

I am so confused now, in the direct x 11 sdk for 7 you can run the tesselation demos with dx10 cards

wth, I thought that was a full dx11 only feature, is it being run on gpgpu or is it some kind of cut down compiler

no one really knows.i thought ATI hardware had tesselation support, w1zzard said it was a different tesselation.

neither can i but DX11 will be able to run the unsupported code on the GPU instead of the CPU if your card dosen't support DX11 also

I think only the 3000 and 4000 series from ATI will be able to that, sice the hardware support for DX10.1 is very simmilar to the DX11. With proper drivers you can (maybe...) enable DX11 on older ATI cards. Hardware.

ATI software DX11 GPGPU stuff will be compatible with old DX10.1 cards, but other vendors and game developers - don't know. In the end it's all M$ mambo-jumbo.

Hoping that our gfx card's unified arcitecture works well, we would probably not need DX11 cards. As for DX9 cards, I think they maybe dead in the water.

yet to see a single dx change go by without needing new gpu's to fully support it. it's part of the business.

you have an excellent point there. consider how much you need a dx10 card with today's games - at the end of life of dx10. i expect similar will happen with dx11. too many gamers wont upgrade and developers/publishers wont risk lower sales just because game x requires hardware y

Quite, I read an article about a year ago, it mentioned that 1 year after the 8800GTS/GTX DX10 cards were introduced there was the sum total of 12 DX10 coded games, of those, the writer of the article considered just one of those games to be reasonably decent, introducing DX11 to games gives developers the opportunity to get away with developing poor quality games (in gameplay terms) initially knowing they will still sell well because everyone wants to see the DX11 candy!

they wont. DX11 games will be coded to support older cards by disabling features.

What killed DX10, was the game makers needing to make two .exe's, and devs coding twice.

If the devs code for DX11, and DX11 has the inbuilt feature to disable features if the card doesnt supporti t, that means a DX9 card can run a DX11 game... just slower, or with less eye candy

I'm thinking of selling my 4850X2 and getting a 200$ DX11 card. I don't really need a gaming card right now, I'm just playing L4D and Killing Floor pretty much right now. I can't wait for STALKER CoP, Mass Effect 2 and Modern Warfare 2 .. They will be DX9, but DX11 stuff is gonna rape I'm guessing. I'm gonna go Nvidia unless ATi absolutely destroys NV, which I don't think will happen.

Sounds about right. Would you kill your dog if he was 10 years old? He runs, barks, plays, has no medical problems, and has never bitten anyone. XP is a good ole dog.
Vista on the other hand gifts you brown and yellow spots on the floor, and is incompatible with your current doggy door, leash, and your other animals. Vista is a better looking dog though, right?

i'm yet to find a single app incompatible with vista. same with 7 - punkbuster being the exception, and thats just cause they're lazy asses.

I do not get yellow spots. my doggy door works fine. 7 is my new pony, it runs faster than vista doggy.

4. By the time Vista finally became worthy, 7 was announced. Ive tried 7, and it is golden.

Just the opposite. Whatever Direct X you think you're running it's not 10.1.
