The ATI Catalyst 10.4 Hotfix provides resolution for the following issue:

Long load times for new maps in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 when using an ATI Radeon HD 5xxx series graphics card
Source

Just in case some of you prefer to deal with betas directly from ATI themselves.

I also forgot. They are working on driver update to improve map load times in BC2 for 4000 series by next week so hold your horses.

heheheheh. I win!!!

j/k.

Thanks, ECH!

I must be logged in then...worked fine for me. search for article gpu-66.

Any performance increases at all or you's haven't noticed any:o

Seems mostly a bug fix, not a performance driver. Small gains, I guess, but i'm running eyefinity, so all gains are relatively small for me.

Haven't tried alot either yet, just BFBC2, GTA4(and the Lost and Damned DLC), as well as the 3dMarks. I'll try alot more once the wife gets home...just got back from picking up the kids from school.

LoL...you guys both posted at the same time, even. Heh.

N00b question - if I have 10.3 catalyst can I install this 10.4 hotfix?

Sure. It's a full driver package, so just do the normal uninstal, then install this driver. It even says to do so on the hotfix page...never install drivers over one another. I mean, you CAN do it, but even ATI does not recommend this. There may be left over files that can cause issues, if you do not remove each version on it's own, using it's own installer.

For detailed instructions on how to install the driver preview, refer to:

■Article GPU-33 for a Windows 7 based system
■Article GPU-1 for a Windows Vista based system
■Article GPU-2 for a Windows XP / Windows 2000 based system

Those articles tell you to remove the old driver FIRST.

This is good news :)

Additional Recommendations:
If the issue continues to occur after installation of the driver preview, the following troubleshooting steps can help resolve the issue:

1.The problem may be a result of issues within the game application. Install any patches and / or updates available for the game application.
a.Contact the game developer for instructions on how to obtain / install the latest patches and / or updates for the game application
2.Conflict between the graphics card and motherboard’s BIOS version can cause performance issues. To reduce any hardware compatibility conflicts, install the latest BIOS version available for the motherboard
a.Contact the motherboard manufacturer for instructions on how to obtain / install the latest BIOS version for the motherboard

3.Installation errors that may have occurred during the installation of the game application may cause performance instability. Perform a clean install of the game application

a.First uninstall the application
b.Perform a fresh install of the application
c.Install any available patches / updates for the application
d.If the problem persists, reinstall the ATI Catalyst 10.4 Driver Preview
4.Installation errors that may have occurred during the installation of the ATI Catalyst Software may cause performance instability. Perform a clean install of the ATI Catalyst Software.

So, it'd be wise to unistall it and then get a BIOS update if available...

Ahaa, AMD calls a full driver package (over 100 mb) a 'hotfix', hehehe, still not used to these guys after being spoiled by red for years ;)

its called a hotfix because its released without complete testing, and its designed to fix one specific issue.

be it, but so it would still be a beta driver in laymen's English ;)

Of course they are free to call it hotflix or whatever ;)

LOL since the hotfix denomination, AMD changed their page title to Driver Preview.... which is another PR twist

Kewl, just got my 5770 installed yesterday and am already hating the 3x load times :) Seems I'll be all over this and maybe even do a driver uninstall first :p (always installed on top of drivers last 3 years with nvidia without issues)

Yeah, samething really - I always define a hotfix as a patch, but with ATi their hotfixes are full sets.

Still, I'll hold out until the 4k series 'hotfix' comes out.

:D

Current driver + fix released before testing = hot fix
next months driver released before final testing = preview

Is this jerkyness 5xxx series problem/GDDR5 problem or driver problem?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CedHmE7_RKo

Run my first FurMark with 5770 and does exactly that, highly annoying. Silky smooth with GTX 280.

Will try these drivers a bit later, if it's any different.

edit: ah it might be the FurMark throttle thing on ATI cards, CPU usage does a jagged line along with the stutters. Oh well, not a biggie.

---

Maps loads just as fast now with 10.4 as it did with NVIDIA 2 says ago :) So fix working great.
