hi,
so I installed 11.7 after uninstalling 11.6 and every thing was great until I had a crash with bf:bc2 and I thought it was normal but it seems that after 1hour of playing I get a crash in bfbc2.
so it's a problem with installation or the driver is just bad??
if it's bad what is the best driver for HD5870??

I've had no issues with the 11.7's. In fact, it's been by far the best performing and consistent driver I have had the pleasure to have used with this HD 5770. I think Lord Jummy may be right.

I run 5870's as well, but I have had no major issues with 11.7. Just unable to get geometry instancing in CCC (even with the registry tweaks). According to the Twitter Feed for Catalyst Creator 11.8 should be out this week though. Maybe you'll have better luck with those.

i doubt its drivers, its likely just an instability in your system showing itself.

before you say 'but it worked fine until now!' thats exactly how these things show up... OC's dont remain perfectly stable, ram randomly fails, etc etc.

There is no need to uninstall old drivers before installing new ones...

Not to offend but that's bad advice from my experience. It may work for some, but to refrain from having any sort of driver conflict it's always better to remove the previous version first, properly.

Technically it should just overwrite the original files with the newer version but it's more likely for issues to occur when doing it that way.

to answer BOTH of you:

On ATI/AMD drivers, you dont need to uninstall *if* you only use WHQL drivers, and only upgrade.

Downgrading can go pretty bad, and since a lot of beta drivers are future versions (EG, a beta from now could be newer than cat 11.8 when it comes out), you end up downgrading to an older driver and things can go wrong (mostly, driver or CCC will stay on the newer version, and you get a screwed up mix)

I know that, but from personal experience upgrading when previous drivers are still installed can lead to conflicts, it'll also leave the previous set on the HDD.

I've only ever been disappointed with one set of ATi/AMD drivers and that was down to performance issues not the issue caused by the user.

Benchmark Scores I only care about practical performance.
I've had similar problems with BC2. Offline, in SP, it works like a charm, but online i get terrible lag at times. Mostly at the start of a map and respawns. I just got done with the backup of all my steam games etc, and I'm going to reinstall windows first thing tomorrow morning. I've had it with all the problems, and it was time anyway.

I still don't think it's the drivers at all. Can you fill out your system specs please (in the member control panel).

Hi IBM.

Okay, so it's sort of official now. Your video card is either dying or your system itself is having a stability issue that BC2 is bringing to the forefront.

As your problem has progressed from "just BC2" to "every game is crashing", clearly the best way to eliminate possible theories is to downgrade to 11.6. I'm assuming that with 11.6 you either didn't have problems or had a small number of recurring and non-annoying problems that lead you to believe a crash in BC2 after an hour with 11.7 was "normal".

On the plus side, BC2 on PC is an usually stressful game for what it outputs on screen. A relatively well done port, it still causes memory overclocks to unravel, GPU fans to kick into high gear and the infamous black flicker that plagues CF setups despite having more than enough GPU power on tap. If BC2 causes problems, its no need for too much overreaction, but your problem has graduated beyond cautious troubleshooting.

Downgrade to 11.6, using Driver Sweeper to get there (It isn't the greatest method, but it's good enough for your purposes in the interests of speed). Test your other games BEFORE you test BC2. Note your situation. Then try BC2, noting your situation. Report back with results.

And take a peek at your savings account. A GPU/PSU upgrade may be in your immediate future.

You can fix that problem by turning bloom off in the ini files... worked for me!!

----

Looking at your spec IBM. Id be worried about the PSU you have. its not a well known or popular brand by any means. It wouldnt suprise me if your PSU isnt good enough to power your system during gaming. thats how cheap PSUs roll... they might quote you 800-900w on the label but inside are components so cheap it struggles to power anything beyond 500w.

PSUs likt those arent new to the market and have been around many years. Q-tec was one of the worst offenders here in the UK & some parts of Europe. but they ceased trading a long long time ago.

spending a lot of money on expensive parts is one thing. but you really need to get a decent 'heart' to power it

let me say my story again with full details::
I left my pc on 7\4\2011 because I had final exams.
on 13\7\2011 I have returnd to pc world once again.
it worked well until a friend of mine advised me to overclock my prossecor with easy tune and installing advanced energy savoir when I leave my pc to download.
an overclock made my system unstable so I restored my Bios to default.
windows was slow at that time with no obvious reason.
formatted my windows only to encounter an error during installation and forced me to:1-depationing 2-remove the battery from motherbord 3- removed 1 of my rams
after hours of countless tries I reinstalled my windows
downloaded 11.7 when I encountered this problem
then I installed 11.8 openGL4.2 beta driver
problem still exists.
did a 3D Mark test on high settings and results were H10300

so maybe there is a missing program like physx or an c++ language pack or something??
sorry for bad english

more likely that you never set your ram voltages, MHz and timings after that CMOS clear you did by pulling the battery.
