Hi I have the system as stated above, which currently has the geforce 7100 onboard graphics card installed right now. I have went through my BIOS, changed my settings to PCI-E graphics, uninstalled my onboard video card and even sweeped the driver on it. Is there any other solutions to why this video card is not working with my system? The problem I am getting is if I try to boot up my system with the GT 240 graphics card plugged into the motherboard is that my monitor, keyboard and mouse do not power up. I upped my power supply to a 400w supply since mine came stock with a 250. The fan on the GT 240 stays running but I do notice when I start up my system with my monitor plugged into my onboard card that I hear a little surging which doesnt happen when I try it without the new graphics card plugged in. Any solutions out there?

Did you disable the onboard gpu when you put the card in?

I know my dad's HP I had to fight a little bit for it to disable the onboard and use the installed 8400 GS. If I'm not mistaken I disabled the onboard gpu and told it to use the PCIe slot for video first and then reboot. Then I had to wait a little bit as it seemed like it was "trying to find the PCIe gpu" if you will.

I would disable the onboard gpu and select the PCIe for the gpu first. Then plug your monitor in to the GT 240 and reboot and wait. Let it sit there a few minutes and see if it doesn't find it after a few minutes. Shouldn't be more than 5 at the very most.

Also worth checking is for a newer bios on HP's site.

sounds to me like a bad video card. Try it in another computer if you can?

It's a hit or miss for me, I once got a 4830 to work on an HP (Asus OEM) motherboard, and when I tried again a few months later, no go.

Yeah I tried it in another computer, and it worked. I think I may upgrade to windows 7 cause if I do that, there is a bios update. But could it be that this graphics card is just too strong cause I hear it surge but then it kind of slows down. The keyboard and monitor turn on with it but still no monitor

What output are you using from the card?

there should be 2 monitor connectors (outputs) on the video card. he's asking which one you have the monitor plugged in to.

did you use that same output for the monitor of the other computer u tried the card in?
