Computer beeps but only shows a flashing underscore

I have tried another GPU, it didn't work. I tried it in both slots on the motherboard too. It really seems like the GPU isn't to blame.

Personally, all I can think of is a faulty motherboard. Which is odd though, because everything looks like it works. The fans run, LEDs are on, etc. Just doesn't boot.

that sucks. I would try another PSU, if not then RMA the CPU, RAM and MOBO.

So all that's left is faulty components, huh?

I have 2 RAM sticks that I both tried, so that seems unlikely. So I guess the problem must lie with the PSU, CPU or Motherboard.

I suppose nothing else can be done at this point, and I will have to contact my retailer.
Thank you guys for all your help, I appreciate it a lot.

Clearling the CMOS doesn't seem to help, unless I am doing it wrong. The first time I try to boot it after clearing the CMOS, instead of beeping once, it does 1 long beep and then 2 very short ones.

Also on this page: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1937&maincat_no=1
it lists:
Athlon II X4 Propus ADX630WFK42GI x630 200 2.80 2M N/A C2 95 7599vA4.zip

I'm pretty sure that is the CPU I have, so it seems it is supported, right? Or did I not understand your post?

The MSI website "suggests" that your cpu is only supported with version 10.4 of the bios (7599vA4.zip) released on 2010-05-14.

However there are versions 10.0, 10.1 and 10.2 also available - I'm wondering if your mobo was shipped with one of these and thus is sticking during POST.

I'm not sure how you would go about checking which version you have and upgrading if necessary, unless you have an older cpu that you could try.

I don't have another AMD CPU that I can use, sadly. Seems a bit hard to upgrade my BIOS if I can't even boot.

Contact support and RMA. Seems like the only option if you cant try another CPU. :(

just found this:

Verify POST beep codes
Continues beeps or 1long 2short beeps = possible memory error
• Try re-seating memory or test with different memory
1long 2short or 8short beeps = possible video card problem
• Try re-seating video card, test system with known good video card

have you tried:

1. boot with no memory - is it the same result?
2. boot with no memory and vid card - same result?
3. boot with no memory, vid and cpu....

If you get different beep codes it may point you at a specific faulty part.

First post say it beeps once. I assumed it was a normal "start" beep.

It beeps once, unless I just cleared the CMOS, then it gives me 1 normal beep and 2 short ones.

When I remove the RAM, it gives me 3 long beeps.
Same result if I remove the RAM and the GPU.
If I remove the RAM, GPU and CPU it doesn't beep at all, but the fans run and the LEDs are on.
