Hey all! I'm new here.

My desktop just turned off. At first I thought it was a power outage, but then I noticed everything is still on. So I went and tried to turn the PC on. It started for a second and shutdown again. Alright, I thought, I'd give it a few moments to relax. And from then on, when I turn the PC, power starts, all fans spin, but nothing happens. The onboard status leds show [--] (two minuses), which is not referenced in the manual... Is the CPU dead? Isn't the damn motherboard supposed to shut down the system in case of overheating? :(

Probably overheating but we need more information;

Please use "user CP' and fill out system specs.

Have you cleaned out the inside of the case latley?

Filled system specs. I have cleaned it actually, I think it was last week.

Your spec still aren't showing up. Were you ocing? I'm going w/ psu probably till you give some more info.

Please use thread titles that describe your problem. "Urgent help" doesn't tell us anything.

Tell about the sounds, u can hear the bips??? or the only thing u can notice its the fans spining around? I think the mobo is the issue... but give us system specs...

Definitely power supply issue but will need to know exactly which board your running with which proc and video card.

Can you hear hard drive activity? If you can, than the computer is probably booting, and you have an issue with either your graphics card, or your monitor. Try clearing CMOS too; sometimes it helps.

I would not say that it is definitely a power supply issue based on so little information, especially given the unusual error code.

Well I'm reading all over the net about problems of pre-post lock ups (with double dashes and no beeps). :| There's no definitive answer however...

I'm an idiot lol, didn't select Yes to show specs.

Well, ocz is solid so perhaps it isn't your psu. Did you try reseting your cmos as thermopylae said? And were you ocing?

OK, try booting with only one stick of ram involved after resetting cmos.

Well, fixed it! Sorta... The PC is now caseless, on a small table lol. But cares when everything is working, right? I think the problem was dust that got in the case over the years was shorting a circuit.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Take care when you screw in the motherboard - make sure no screw can short it. That's a common problem when a pc works caseless...

The computer worked for more than a year, I think I was careful enough.

Don't know what happened suddenly.
