Very easy way to confirm if GPU driver issue, there is an option in discord to switch to software rendering. I actually run it like that 24/7 now to free up precious VRAM and prevent interference with games. I also use Firefox in software mode, as unlike chrome it seems to have no visible impact.

This was a clean install on a new build computer. Virgin SSD, no other OS had been installed on it before.

Here's my add-ons. But like I said, issue is still present with them disabled, so it can't be anything to do with them.
Nothing there seems out of sorts. I'd try turning the Stream, Twitter and Instagram extensions off and restarting Firefox to see if you notice an improvement. See below.

I reinstalled Firefox and will report back when it starts lagging again.
I'd like to recommend you try the extensions "Cookie AutoDelete", "Disable WebRTC" and "Disconnect". These are security minded types but have the added benefit of keeping the FireFox cache empty on close, which is key to both good security and smooth operation.

Below is my options for Cookie AutoDelete and the ones I recommend;

Disable WebRTC and Disconnect have no options to set. If those don't fix your problem them is it likely you are having a problem elsewhere in your system that needs to be resolved.

Like I said, disabling extensions does nothing. The browser still lags whether I have extensions on or not. Clearing my browser cache temporarily fixes the issue, but only for a week or two and then it starts lagging again. This problem only started presenting itself around july. Previously, I'd had my Firefox cache get to several gigabytes in size, being several years old, and it not cause me any problems. Hence why I thought it was a big that was introduced this year that presents itself due to the way my system is configured or the hardware I have. I built this system around march. Other people have reported similar issues to me, but nobody has found a solution as of yet.

Ok, follow that link in the other thread and use the ESR version for a few weeks. Also use the above three extensions.

Just over a week and it's started doing it again. Not as frequent as before, but it tends to get worse over time. I downloaded the regular release by mistake, so I didn't follow your instructions entirely. My bad.

Are you using NoScript? If not, you should.

You got any network shared drives?
This happened to me with a disconnected mapped network drive, although it was steam going bonkers for me

my brother has a similar issue with sites like google maps using chrome on a fx6 pc. He tried resolving the issue for months and he gave up. I think he hasn't tried loading chrome in safe mode or windows safe mode. Also I'd try a ubuntu live with chrome but he seems to like chrome. I think he has windows 10

If you disable hardware acceleration on Firefox (and discord), does the issue persist?

I have had issues with disabled extensions still causing issues. Have you tried to see if the issue reappears with Firefox with no extensions installed (not just disabled, but actually not installed)?

Also gonna have to echo Mussels, a disconnected, mapped drive on a network can cause very similar symptoms. Do you have any network drives/printers?

Having checked the hardware in the OP again and realising i own most of it, a few thoughts

1. Check the chipset temps and fan speed, my thermal pad died on this board way too fast and needed replacing in under 2 years of use

2. mechanical hard drives, internal or USB can do this

3. It could be good old SoC problems needing higher voltages, normally not needed for mere 3000MT/s RAM, but super brief dropouts and recovery is the basic symptom. You aren't running a curve undervolt that could be causing CPU errors that are recovering, are you?
