Editorial Confessions of a Crypto Miner: Efficiency

I have , i quite literally pay separately for its power

I took it to mean "at every power level and in such detail..." pretty sure most do a basic profit analysis. :)

I will say it over and over again with no regrets. Mining needs to die. I enjoy watching hackers steal electronic currency. The amount of power consumption produced by this senseless and selfish market is eye opening. Respectively, mining power use exceeds that of indoor marijuana grows. The facts are out there. Hope the hackers keep doing their work. Mining needs to die, literally.

Football needs to die. Millions are wasted on players, stadiums, broadcast rights etc. so that bunch of guys dressed in two different colors can kick around a ball on a grass field.

@R-T-B thanks for the article. I'm surprised the small difference the power limit made. I would have expected more. I will double check with my pc which I ran at 65% atm. Granted it's not a mining rig just my home pc mining when idle.

Because it is a TPU-driven experiment and study to bring some greater understanding of mining, good and bad. Naturally we are being kept in the loop on findings as things progress. :)

No lets be honest, TPU is fishing for new members nothing more(mining gets clicks lots of clicks).

If it was tpu fishing for members W1z would be doing bios mods and posting them in the thread I started and that would be on the front page.

This kind of stuff doesn't get members, but that sure does.

you kno what if tomarrow I win the lottery I am going to order every gpu I can from the 1060 upward
and keep them in boxes on a shelf someware
just to piss you off

if your grow uses less then 4500w you are doing it wrong
I don't think you realise how much power indoor grow lights use

Great write up as always, I might have missed it but the benefit of going to 240v is your able to have more rigs on the same line, 20A breaker on 120v 2400w - 20A breaker on a 240v 4800w so more power available to you.

Keep these articles coming.

And if I was gaming, what would I be producing?

So it needs to die and uses more resources than xxxx. You know what it uses less resources than? How about paying people to get in their vehicles, drive to work (using gas and emissions), to to the office and turn on their lights, computer, heat/air conditioning, then pay more people to issue that persons paycheck, etc etc etc. The list goes on and on.

Blockchain isn't just financial virtual "money", it's about a public ledger to easily and efficiently replace people that do certain types a work that a computer can do better, more efficiently, and without mistakes

:pimp:

And those 666 on the watt meter is a coincidence too .

No, as I said earlier, intentional... lol

I made a deal with the devil for lower energy bills.

I for myself consider tuning the temperature is the top priority. If I can maintain my GPUs below 70 degree Celsius, I would consider safe not matter the power consumption it end up with.

This wasn't a test for safety, but basic economics if you are a "sell immediately" miner.

My GPUs never surpass 60C anyways.

Temps actually were considered, but deemed irrelevant because all of them fall so low it's almost silly (50C peak).

Yes, garlicoin. It's supposed to be some kind of memecoin based on litecoin. I don't see the potential honestly, but I didn't see the riches in Doge either, so one night it is for my "high risk" part of my portfolio...

Do you really not see what made DOGE so appreciable? It actually has a few key features that played off each other incredibly well:

1) There is a massive supply of DOGE, and that makes them incredibly easy to buy and spend. Now I understand that most of these coins go down to the 8th decimal place (so that shouldn't matter), but also people are emotional creatures that like whole numbers.

2) The transaction time was very quick and low cost. Again, that made it popular as a form of currency (and not just for HODL'ing).

3) It was made from an adorable meme with a very real community of people who loved to use it - that made a big difference in the early "wild west" days of cryptocurrency. Consider how much more appealing the name "DOGE" is compared to "Litecoin." Litecoin sounds incredibly bland, almost like it was a placeholder name they never punched up.

^See where all of this is leading? It's funny, cheap to buy and spend, and it has a goofy community. That makes it an excelling medium for tipping and joking with friends online. It made Feathercoin irrelevant overnight for these reasons.

DOGE's sum was greater than its parts. In fact I think it has always remained as a top 50 coin, and it probably always will.

So now ask yourself this - Does garlicoin look as promising?

Hell no, but I made $100 on one night mining it from the people who thought it would be, so there is that.
