Corrupted files on win7 & dont have a disc to reinstall !

My gf's daughter's laptop was full trogens & malware when we got it. Anyway I managed to remove the crap with windows defender & malwarebytes but its obveus it has damaged system files as it carnt enable or install any AV software or download any windows updates. Plus some stuff just dont work anymore, defrag for instance.

I know it needs a fresh install of win7 but we never got a win7 disc with the laptop.

I have a win7 home disc but the laptop has win7 pro

Can i just download win7 pro from say here & use the product key thats on the laptop already?

It depends, but there is a risk you cannot activate it using the product key. Modern OEM computers generally preactivates Windows, so it'll turn up as blocked from Micosofts actiavtion servers. You can try it, but it's not guaranteed.

Another way is to call the OEM and ask if they can send out a new disk.

Yes, this can be done. If the activation is blocked, call the 800 number, and when activation fails, wait and talk to a representative. Explain the situation and they will activate. This happened 2 weeks ago with a coworkers machine and this is how we solved it. It is time consuming, but it works. One day maybe oems will return to the old days of sending windows disks with their machines :rolleyes:
