Thank you to everyone who has donated a piece of their knowledge, it is greatly appreciated!
OP, since you're talking about the 240 mm AIO's, don't overlook the air cooler that trades blows with them, the
Noctua NH-D15S.
Also, I recently discovered how good of a deal the
EKWB kits are. One of their
Slim 240's would do nicely in your
R4.
Yea that is why I phrased it that way. I use a Noctua NH U9DX i4 for my servers 2683v4 without issues. Even under load rendering multiple clients in plex I don't see temps over 70C locked in a limited airflow desk cubby.
Really even a hyper 212 evo with a pair of fans would be plenty for that chip since it cannot OC.
Noctua NH-U12S if you prefer quieter system
You've all suggested some sort of air cooler, so I'll answer you together and provide additional information.
My case is very well padded, I don't really hear anything coming from within
I currently own a Zalman cooler (low end) which isn't the quietest around the market, but I still don't hear it at all.
So... I guess "quiet wise" I am good.
The Noctua NH-15 is the reason I started looking at water cooling in the first place.
It's definitely the best air cooler, and his price tag shows it. That's why I thought checking out water cooling, as he is actually more expensive than all the other 120mm water coolers.
Also, not everything is available in my country (like the U9DX ).
Here's the list of some of coolers which are available in my country. This is basically what I am able to choose from:
CoolerMaster Hyper 212X - 48$
CoolerMaster Hyper D92 - 53$
CoolerMaster Hyper 612 Ver.2 - 55$
Arctic Freezer i32 - 55$
Noctua NH-U9S - 70$
Noctua NH-D9L - 73$
Noctua NH-U14S - 80$
Noctua NH-D15S - 97$
CoolerMaster V8 GTS - 98$
Noctua NH-D15 - 104$
Given the price of the D15S, I might as well take the NH-D15, if this is indeed the best choice in the list..
What do you think? Which one would you pick?
so given your opinion i might suggest this other one !
Any additional information regarding your choice would be really helpful. Why did you recommend this one over the rest?
IME, xeon's of recent years are pretty cool runners....not to mention one like yours with a max Freq of likely 3.3Ghz ( im aware its listed max is 3.6Ghz, but thats single core Max, not all core max), which you wont see unless loads are lower. the good part when buying a $2500 CPU, is component quality, unless im mistaken, the MAx Temps on those chips is up to 75C, or there about. a beefy Air HS, or a decent fitting AIO solution will suffice nicely. IME the Corsair H110i GTX is a beas...its quiet, VERY effective, and holds my chips under 18C idle, and 45C Full load @ 5.0Ghz Freq. not to mention the actual copper plate is large enough to fit 2+ consumer grade chips (since its also suitable for 2011+ CPU's )
Are we talking about this
H110i GTX?
1) It's a 280mm cooler, which unfortunately my case doesn't support.
2) It's not sold in my country, only the non-GTX version.
3) Even the non-GTX version is fairly expensive in my country, costing about 170$. Quite the price tag..
Perhaps another recommendation?
