CPU heating up after thermal paste application

I use GD900
me too. ive been using it for 3 years or more its around the same as MX-4 cooling wise and you get 50g for £6 straight from china in my view its a nobrainer. OP i know others have said but you have applyed 80% too much bud.

I've never used that much thermal paste and I put a little over the size of a pea right in the middle of the CPU IHS. I don't use the spread with a credit card method because I think this creates more of a chance for air bubbles to get trapped. Air is a horrible means of transferring heat. The way it was explained to me is that even though an IHS seems flat to the naked eye when looking at the IHS under a microscope you can clearly see pits in the metal and some unevenness. The point of the TIM is too fill in those pits and unevenness. It doesn't take much.

What will happen if I don't put a thermal paste in my processor and heatsink? - Quora

yeah too much, too much paste will make the heat transfer worse
the less is better, using dot/pea size or i usually using small dabs. so far so good

That is not a good advice, you will get worse thermal if you don't put in enough paste vs putting too much paste.
The extra paste just get squeeze out the side because of mounting pressure.
Gamersnexus did a video about this, too much paste is not an issue for desktop CPU, not enough paste is
Also how you mount the cooler is very important, just make sure to distribute the mounting pressure equally.

too much paste is not good when you need to replace the newer one
actually just for sure you need to test it before fix it to avoid too much paste excess

Reporting back guys,
Finally issue is resolved. Everyone was correct about the fact that base of my heatsink wasn't making proper contact with IHS. my heatsink plate had came off lose although only by ~2 mm (unnoticeable) hence why i couldn't for my life figure out what I am doing wrong in my application.
With that fixed my temp are ~ 15C lower than what i was facing with lose contact plate.

AND guess what! i think my contact plate had came a bit lose from even before(when i installed my new corsair AIO cooler) although may be barely noticeable as well, hence why i was noticing temps in 80s (while gaming) on my 9900k. With my new paste and tightened plate my temps are with in 70s even under stress test load.
Thanks everyone once again. This forum users are really helpful!

we go off topic and argue with each other lots, but we do try and actually solve tech problems here

I am sorry is this in reference to my issue? Can you please elaborate a bit more? also i am not sure what u mean by contact issue. All was ok on the stock paste that corsair AIO came with. Issue started only after i put on a new paste.

the suggestion is that when you removed the cooler to do the repaste something happened to stop things going back together properly.. your picture suggests that..

the amount of paste still on the parts also suggests the parts were not mating properly.. excess paste should be squeezed out of the sides and not stay in a big thick looking blob lke your picture shows..

this isnt just about different pastes.. its something else causing the prob;em..

trog
Hi,
Sorry missed it
Trog summed it up nicely
