CPU Not Working after Swapping the Heatsink

So I’ve just bought a new cpu heatsink from BeQuiet (Dark Rock 2) since I had enought of my stock cooler being loud like a Boeing engine (despite the fact the Wraith coolers are brilliant, I mean).

The cpu I have is AMD Ryzen 3700X.

While I unmounted the stock cooler, the cpu was stuck to the heatsink even though the socket lever was locked, which kinda frightened me firstly, but as I found out this happens time to time, I noticed that there were two pins bent on the cpu so I just straightened them using a thin blade.

After me separating the cpu from the stock cooler I put the cpu back and proceeded the whole process and set up the new cpu heatsink.

When I was finished I wanted to turn my PC on but as I pushed the Turn on button on the chasis, nothing happened.

I’m 100% sure there was power going to the computer and I didn’t do anything extraordinary during the swapping of the heatsinks.

Please, could anyone tell me what might be wrong with the cpu? Is there any chance of it working again or is it just definitely dead? Or is it the cpu, isn’t it anything else that is broken?

Cpus go back into motherboard in a certain orientation, that I'm sure you quite aware of by now. i cant believe AMD is still using pins on their cpu. Didnt intel do away with that way back in x58 days. are they still doing that? check the 24 pin , 6/8 pin 5v rail/ and any 12v rails attached to the motherboard. Remove the entire pc and resetup outside the case. Thats how you found out if you have a short somewhere in the case. grab a spare cpu to be for sure. lets see the damage

By those pins i meant those small things that cpus are connected to the socket (it’s easy to bend them), i donno whether it’s called somehow else, lack of vocab

I checked everything that goes into the mb, tryed to even unmount everything and put it together again but no result of that.

I’m thinking I probably killed the mb by static since I was doing the whole thing on a rug. Since neither of the fans spin and it doesn’t do anything when I try to turn it on.

Omg but what are the odds of killing such a new device by static (the mb is Asus ROG strix x470-f gaming with 3rd gen. bios friendly)

Check to make sure the CPU cooler is fully positioned and installed level. Bad mounting can sometimes cause that issue.

On a rug? I'm afraid rugs and carpets are static magnets.
Yes, it is possible that static has damaged the motherboard, in that case. And yes, most of us have experienced the CPU being stuck to the cooler.
With the motherboard secure in the case, the cooler safely mounted on the CPU (the CPU wouldn't locate correctly if any pins were still bent, anyway), a memory stick installed, make sure you only have the PSU connected, checking of course that the front panel on/off/reset etc are connected correctly. Also, make sure you touch the case before contact with the motherboard.
Try turning it on and if that fails, try another PSU, if you have one to hand.

Yea like a carpet thing :D I know about statics but there’s just this small probability of it actually damaging such a new device right, that was a thing like 90s-ish :D.. BUT I touched the chasis anyway to get rid of the static electricity..

I’m sure that the power supply unit is ok since a control LED on the mb actually indicates being powered.. also ensured that every single cable leading to the mb is plugged.

A bit unrelated but what always worked me so far when removing the CPU cooler is to stress it and let it heat up somewhat before turning off the system. 'something like Aida/Prime stress for a few mins'

This way I never had my CPU stuck to the cooler and also no bent pins on my AMD CPUs and I mainly use AMD CPUs for ~15 years now.

Check to see if you are applying too much pressure to the processor when you installed the new cooler.

did you accidentally leave the on/off switch following the cable to the motherboard disconnected? or maybe not put it back on the right way. trip the surge protector? trip the breaker box?

Static is force of nature. There's been no "new revisions"

Over tightening can cause this as moBo warps,

All so a gentle twist of the cooler clockwise and anticlockwise.

Hope he has not bent any of the pins.

If the Dark Rock 2 has compression springs they should bottom out preventing you from over tightening, and wrapping the motherboard.
