Crossfire Problem with Crysis 1

I'm running 2 6950's in crossfire and on Crysis 2 and the Witcher 2, I'm pushing almost 70 fps average with everything maxed, yet when I play Crysis or Crysis Warhead, I'm lucky to be above thirty. I have all the patches and drivers installed, can anyone give me a little bit of insight and perhaps help me with my problem? Thank you.

I couldn't figure it out either but Crysis limited my Frames to 30 as well.

It must be something with the settings or config. Perhaps you have vsync on? If so turn it off and see if that gets your frames higher than 30.

Honestly though I'd rather have a constant super smooth hitch free 30 FPS than bare with visual tearing at 30+ FPS.

I do not have vsync enabled, and it constantly dips to below 20 during battles. I'm kind of baffled.

I can run Crysis just fine with 60+ fps using that crossfire setup except I'm using MSI Twin Frozr II 6950's 2GB so I'm not sure why you would be having issues o_O

Make sure your 3D settings in CCC are all at default.

Ok, enabled multigpu on the console, but it's still capped at 30 fps roughly, and yes vsync is disabled.

I just checked my second GPU, it has 0% activity, even with Crossfire enabled both on CCC and Crysis console. Any idea how to enable it?

So it says enabled in CCC? Are other games using both gpus?

Yes, when I play Crysis 2 and The Witcher 2, both cards become active and I get almost 70-80 fps average.

Hi

- Crysis 1- you could try this!

goto Crysis game folder and open Bin32
-find file named CryRenderD3D9.dll & CryRenderD3D10.dll
copy these to seperate windows folders
-then rename CryRenderD3D9.dll to CryRenderD3D10.dll
&
-then rename CryRenderD3D10.dll to CryRenderD3D9.dll

copy these back into to the Crysis/Bin32 folder and select copy and replace

Then go to Crysis.exe and create a shortcut

-highlite the shortcut and press right mouse button to bring up sub menu - select Properties
-within the Shortcut Tab you will see a location called Target:
-at the Target location you will see the location of your Crysis install
-example: it will look something like this \crysis\Bin32\Crysis.exe"
-add to the end (ONLY) of this -dx11
you should now have a command line that looks like this
-example: \crysis\Bin32\Crysis.exe" -dx11 (Note there is a space between "&-dx11)

I found this on a forum over at crymods and it appears to work, so I take no credit...

nb: make sure you are running the latest whql drivers and have caps installed, allow 2xaa in game and turn all settings in ccc to auto / "default as mentioned by erocker"

hope this helps

Wasn't their a setting in CCC about Catalyst AI? I believe for Crysis, set this to enabled to get CF working properly. It looks like it is only using one GPU.

Gday there. My crysis can dip to 20-25 frames on Extreme setting @ 1920x1080 with 8x AA and vsync on. Im running a i7 930 @ 4.2ghz and 6970 crossfire. Id say its the game its just that hardcore on the system.

I don't think its a crossfire issue (regarding the 30FPS cap).

I have a 30 FPS cap in Crysis as well. Never figured out why, but it never really bothered me either.

Hi

Best way to see if you are getting crossfireX ingame is to use the CCC windows taskbar icon and ensure you have a tick in the box next to CrossFireX Settings / Status Icon

nb: if you are looking on the windows desktop at the VPU usage it will show your second card as 0% usage as crossfireX is only used in high power mode in full screen applications.

Using alt tab a couple of times also effects crossfireX and can be used to force crossfire from the settings menu ingame, by dropping the game down to the taskbar; you may need to do this if you run crysis in pure DX10 mode.

hope this helps

No I get 45-65 in Crysis with just two 6850s.

Considering one card isn't working it is a CrossFire issue. Try using the 11.10 preview 2 drivers: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU122AMDCat1110PreDriverV2.aspx No CAP needed.

Seemed to work for this person: http://www.overclock.net/pc-games/1142345-there-crossfire-solution-crysis.html

I wasn't talking about the issue of his other card not working... I was taking about the FPS cap. I have a single card and still have the FPS cap issue with the latest drivers.

A little off topic guys, but I'd like to ask anyways, what's a safe GPU Temp under load for a 6950?

That could be half your problem mate. They arnt the greatest for crossfire. I had a mate that had one of those and he had crossfire 6870s. He scored sumthin like 6000 in 3dm11. When he bought a i7 2600 it went up to 8000. Thats roughly a 35% increase. I Know u need a beef cake cpu when your running crysis with crossfire.
