anyone have any idea why (2) 4870X2's wont work with vista64, QX9650, and ASUS Maximus extreme? I get a BSOD when the driver is installed, works great with one.. also works great with one X2 and one regular 4870.

any help would be appreciated.. We've tried flashing the motherboard's bios, as well as the cards.

this isnt the system in my sig, its another system.

make sure your chipset is updated using the intel update software on your motherboard disk and make sure you have the newest bios. I have two 4850's in crossfire working great with the same motherboard. Also you must completely remove any old driver from your system and not just reinstall over them to get your cards to work. My board is a Maximus flashed to a Rampage, but physically they are identical.

tried chipset drivers, tried removing drivers, tried reinstalling vista.

Crossfire works fine, up to three GPUS(4870+4870X2), but when the other X2 is in.. BSOD.

Have everything running stock/no overclock? Possibly the cards are being underpowered by your psu.

Are you using 8.10 cats?

This system has dual 1100W PSU's.

I have read that some X48 boards have problems running dual x2's, does this carry over to the x38?

its just strange that 4870X2+4870 is fine, but 4870X2+4870X2 wont even make it into windows.

Yeah, 8.10 cats, also tried 8.9

edit: here's the system in question

How are they "master/slaved" together? Green to green ground to ground or manual power on by you?

Just curious .....

Never heard of such an issue. Link me if you dont mind. I need to learn something new. :)

Hmm, it seems the issue with the 4870x2's is only with dfi boards. Im kind of at a loss.. i dont think its the cards because they work fine individually.

As far as the PSU's, sorry i wasnt thinking, one is for the board+Cards, the other is for the cooling(pumps, fans)

Have you contacted DFI about it? I was having problems with my Biostar, turns out they had a bios flash that wasnt released yet. Fixed all my problems.

you need to add a tad more NB volts and FOR SURE more SB volts. thats your problem.

it's a PITA to get monster cards to run stable on a OCed mobo. i know first hand.

NB is bumped up quite abit, but havnt touched SB, its on auto.. i didnt think the SB mattered for GPUs... ill give that a shot tomorrow.

when you have 2 monster GPUs sucking all the power form the SB then it does matter.
