Didn't looked motion captured to me, hence the sticky jerky movements : ]

Still good though.
I suppose they used motion capture. If it's not motion capture... more power to the point I was making. Motion capture is used to save time on creating "realistic" animations. (although there's a shitload of finetunning of collected keyframes afterwards, maybe something this video is lacking)

Creating those animations "by hand" is a very arduous task. I'm talking about days or even weeks of work. That's why motion capture is used in the first place. Too much work for a fan based video. There's a tiny posibility they made all this with keyframe animation, but not very probable.

I never thought watching a Rick Astley clip would be so fun! Man that guy should seek a job at Crytek, he seems to understand better how to make lips sync with dialogue!

I used to have a game where you could simply contract "muscles" and just set the timings so if you had an understanding of musculature you could animate a back-flip in about 4 minutes : ]

Would make sense for animators to use a similar system really, the back-flip in the video certainly looks like it uses this type of system ( contractions are not quite timed right and certain contractions that should of been made havn't)

As for drinks and movie bashing, ahh if only we had a TPU jet to do such things

Google Toribash it uses a contraction system : ]
