We don't talk about it much anymore, but some of us old school guys have always loved tweaking memory more than anything else. I've spent hours tweaking DDR1 and DDR2, trying to squeeze every mhz out of it, or tightening the timings just a bit tighter. We even had a Ram Tweakers thread dedicated to these fine pieces of hardware. See it here:

Ram Tweakers thread

I'd like to start a new DDR3 tweakers thread with the same kind of format, but I'd like the clocks to be confirmed reasonably stable. All submissions MUST include a CPU screenie (memory tab), and completed LinX 20 cycle run or a super pi 32m run.

Let's see those screenies guys!! I will update submissions daily, as time permits!

LinX Link
super pi 1.5

Set it to use all available memory.

I think LinX on max ram or Prime95/Orthos on Blend for a specified time would be the best options.

What you think Paul?

I think a LinX 20 cycle run would be my choice. My only concern is for members who do not have cooling that can handle LinX. Maybe we should say a short wprime run?

I have also heard that a 32M run of superpi is a good test of RAM. Also make a couple passes of Memtest 86+. The latest version fully supports all the new chipsets and even tells you the type of ram in each slot.

but isnt it just for mem clock they can lower there multi so they dont need alot of vcore

Yeah, that is certainly true. Good point!:)

Just starting to test some oc's on the DDR3 that I picked up from Pauilie. Right now got um @ 7-7-7-20 @ 1175MHz 1.60v (lowest the mobo will go on volts). Havent pushed them every hard yet, Im still finding my cpu's top end. After I find that I will start pushing the DDR3. :toast:

ill see what kind of oc i can get never relly tryed to pushing them yet :D

i say a LinX and everest cache & memory benchmark ?

I usually use everest to test and bench my memory, very easy to use.

I think just a LinX is fine, along with a CPU-Z screenie with memory tab.

Ive never used LinX. Going to get it and do a run.

everest was just for the read ,write, copy to see what performance the oc makes.

If it's of any consellation. I have this and ran it along with small fft's for 1hr in Orthos. These are my 24.7 clocks.

What is the decision? 32M Wprime?

Would you consider it an OC if you were running CL9 1333 as CL6 1280

Well, we may do a low latency thread too, but not what we are looking for here. I'd like to keep things raw speed here.

LinX 20 cycle run.

I'm not at home right now, but I'll post my overclock in the OP tonight.

Added my current overclock to the OP, with a shameless plug for WCG. Where the hell is everyone? Are people really that disinterested in ram overclocking? That would make me very sad.

My rig is down, you know I'll be back in here. People should also show off how much ram they have in their rigs :p 12-24GB users are welcome!

i like super pi 32m better for a memory test and i think it stresses more than linx does

will plop some pics of 1800CL7 up shortly on my D9's

I have no problem with Super pi 32m. I think it's perfectly acceptable.

oh well in that case

that latency made a 20 second difference :toast:

Typical for AMD rigs. Not so much with Intel. It;s too bad too, as I think I was close to stable at 1930 Cas 7.

this will be an interesting thread to follow, because when doing a lot of those standard benched, the card can only take you so far, but tweaking the ram gets you that extra mile.....

i'll post some results in a few with my new ripjaws, hoping for some interesting numbers
