After my DFI board died with the X2 installed, I wanted to see if the CPU was still alive, so I put it in my asus a8r-mvp. Problem was, the cooler retention bracket was already modded for an IHS-less CPU (my old Venice 3500+), I didn't want to take out both boards and swap the brackets, so I decided to just cut the IHS off my X2. I scraped a bit of the green PCB stuff off and nicked one of those chips around the edges , but luckily it still works perfectly. I'm loving this, at stock clocks and volts it never went above 46c load with an AC freezer 64 and a really shitty case with only 1 exhaust fan, on a decently hot day. I think the bracket still needs a bit more trimming, but it's fine for now.
Anybody else have experience with removing their IHS?
