dead space remake: same game with better graphics?

@Frag_Maniac
What was the refresh rate on the Samsung TV? At 75hz. I didn't notice any flicker on my 20" Mag Innovision flatscreen CRT.
I can't find the full specs on it anymore, but I'm pretty sure it was 60Hz.

I don't know why you guys argue about CRTs. I couldn't play on them for more than an hour at a time, because the flicker gave me terrible headaches. In the last CRT years, I had a truly flat Samsung CRT (it had a concave glass panel that gave you the image of a flat display) that could also do 75 Hz which made it a bit better, but still not perfect. I can sit in front of any LCD as long as I need/want to, which is something I couldn't do with a CRT. I'm so glad the technology died, and I don't miss it one bit.

Thant's my two cents, enough off-topic from me. :)

You guys? The only one that seems to be interested in one is 80251.

The only halfway decent CRT I ever gamed on was a Dell 22" Trinitron, but yeah, they DO have flicker. That said, they DO NOT have motion blur, and it took a LONG time for flat panel TVs to get to the point where motion blur was not an issue.

That's fine, but when CRT flicker gives me a massive headache (as in: a literal headache up to the point when I was seeing doctors who couldn't figure out what was wrong), I'll have motion blur without a question.

I found for me it was mainly only a problem at 60Hz. The Viewsonic G series 22" CRT I had and the Dell 22" as well could both easily do 120Hz at certain resolutions, which had no flicker problem.

My main problem with flat panels is just LCD types, most of which still have some level of motion blur. Which is why an OLED will no doubt be my next display. Sure, prices are high, but the 42" LG is now down to $900, and I suspect now that they and Samsung are adopting a more volume practical type of panel production, the prices will come down further.

Maybe. The 75 Hz Samsung that I had made it a bit better, but didn't completely eliminate the problem.

Yeah I found it's best to go up to 120Hz on CRTs.

Actually I've seen people say since it's been patched, it plays pretty well. In fact, from the footage I've seen, it plays more smoothly than Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection, which are pretty old games remastered, that I have played myself. Even the Dead Space Remake from what I've read requires a few min of shader compilation before playing for it to run smoothly.
Its pretty, and the sound design is good, but the game itself is mediocre at best. I like the idea of Melee being more of a thing, but the fact guns are almost worthless in the game till the final boss except when mixing melee and shooting is very annoying. Not to mention story was meh/cheesy, I mean how many times did we get separated from partners in the game, it got to the point it was a joke. Its sad because I was super hyped up about the game.

$60 for improvements to a game I've already played doesn't seem worth it. They didn't even add RTX effects. If it was a sequel or a different setting in the Dead Space universe then I might bite.
The remake could've been the best game ever and I'd still forever avoid it after what EA did to the devs of the original game... Milking that franchise even more is simply wrong...

Well, I haven't played it yet, so I COULD be wrong about this assumption, but it kind of reminds me of how many hated the combat loop you pretty much had to adhere to in Halo Infinite, which I myself struggled with at first. I ended up finding though that once you get the details of it engrained in your playstyle to where you didn't have to think about it, it became a MUCH more enjoyable game. In fact I ended up finding that I didn't even really need to do the fast switching of multiple weapons and lots of fancy aerial combat many were doing to beat the game, and even did so on Nightmare with no upgrades. Truth be told, I tried and tried to use those fancy tricks, but at 64, didn't have the reflexes and dexterity for it.

That said, from the amount of gameplay I HAVE seen of Calisto Protocol, I could see how just sheer boredom might be a problem, since it's combat loop is FAR simpler with just melee, scant few weapons, and Kinesis tosses into fans, etc. Sometimes when you go for sheer horror via only being able to use minimal tactics for combat, you wind up with the dreaded tedium syndrome.

It can be fun at times, but like I said the game makes guns so worthless except in a combination with the melee. It would be cool if some of the upgrades added more melee abilities that could completely change gameplay, or if mixing weapons was more than "Pull the trigger once a symbol appears" it could have been fun. But most of the upgrades only really help on the melee and are things like "Breaks arms when enemy blocks" or "Increase damage" (There is a third group that is supposed to add to the gameplay but its very minor). It's not unredeemable, just feels like they had all these ideas and ran into a point where they could not figure out how to implement it right and just gave up after halfway doing it.

I would still be interested in a sequel.

Well I'm still going to pick it up at some point, but would rather wait until I get an RT capable GPU.

'RTX effects'? Doncha mean RT effects, RTX is nVidia nomenclature for RT capable cards.

I have DSR in both my rigs, despite many complaining about stutters making the game unplayable, I do see traversal hitching, and very mild stutter here and there, nothing game breaking. The game is fun, it has RTAO, but since DSR is set in the dark surrounding of the Ishimura, I think leaving out full RT was a good idea as it'd kill framerate for many.

The game runs very well on my main rig with the 5900X/RX 7900 XTX at 3840x1080 natively, max ingame setting (including RTAO) with framerate not going below 130fps. On my 2nd rig with the 3900X/RX 6900 XT, with FSR2.0 at Quality setting, max ingame setting, I manage it at '4K' with framerate between 55fps to 60fps, had it framerate limited to 60fps to match my TV's 60Hz. Again, traversal hitching and very mild stutters here and there, but plays very nicely and looks pretty darn awesome.
