DeepCool Assassin IV

Nice looks and performance :)

We need reviews of the Thermalright coolers added. They are so good, and so cheap, where I live. Unbeatable.

I've bought 3 in a row now, and they are all great.

I should take a pic of all of mine stacked up.. there might be 8 or 9 there :D

And still no Thermalright Frost Commander 140 review. That costs HALF what this does. If it's even close in performance, which it almost certainly is, don't you think your readers would want to know what? If TR won't send a sample, buy one. You really going to try and tell me TPU can't afford $50?

Agreed. I'll literally send @crazyeyesreaper mine if he needs :D Though @freeagent will probably beat me to it, he has multiple FC140s.

The price points of the PA120, PS120, FC140 and FS140 now are so mind-boggling that quite frankly no other brand has even gotten on my radar for price/performance in the past year. Some for aesthetics sure (Deepcool), but the $30 PA120 and $50 FC140 ($CAD!!) are just undeniable. Keep the fans or swap the fans, doesn't matter, get the most expensive fans possible and it still comes in under the D15/U12A in price and whups them upside the head.

A D15 with Chromax covers is still a real head-turner, but that's even more $$ for a dated design with dated fans, and Deepcool is steadily getting there in the looks department. I've only seen 1 example in pictures so far of a A12x25 swapped AK620, but aftermarket fans on the Deepcool shrouded design doesn't look half bad at all, especially against a white or black/silver variant.

I review what I can when I can. Right now I am dealing with a slipped disc in my back (just got back from doctors) and I am trying to prep 2 new test benches with new test procedures for cooler reviews.

Please review Thermalrights, i'd be also interested if they can be used (with customisation?) for direct-die cooling of AMD.

Thanks for the review! That is one nice looking cpu cooler, im thinking of ditching AIO
I wont be ditching my AIO, but if I was buying a cooler right now, this would be on my shortlist, and I might not have ended up buying my Arctic Freezer II 280, which I am of course happy with.

Although no CPU cooler reviews are ever comprehensive enough for me (they cant ever be perfect for everyone), so I always read between the lines, an AIO still has benefits over a heatpipe cooler. Caveats abound, including AIO placement, whether using additional fans, the case, case fan layout etc.

Fair enough I guess i7 and i9 might be better with aio 360mm and i5 with an air cooler

That depends on your CPU and which AIO you have. I recently ditched a be quiet! Silent Loop 2 280 mm for a Dark Rock 4 because my 7800X3D throttled with it at 50 W. Although, it worked brilliantly with my 11700 before.

No way it was throttling at 50W unless you had a bad mount.!!! As I have seen you around here before and you have made a lot of posts, you must know that the AMD 7000 CPU's routinely run at 90C when under load, but do not throttle as such, just how their opportunistic boost works.! However that doesn't explain why the Dark Rock 4 was better for you, surely a mounting issue.

(some) Noctua products have adaptors available to change the height, but note that the current shipping AMD 7000 series CPU's are not compatible with the current line of DerBauer (Der8auer) direct die shim's. He discussed this in a video 8-days ago.

Probably a mounting issue, although I remounted the block several times, I've even tried the Thermal Grizzly offset mount, no change.

There is a difference between running Zen 4 at 95 °C (89 with the X3D) because your cooler isn't good enough, and getting 4-500 MHz lower and 5-7 °C higher with a 280 mm AIO than with a single fan tower cooler that costs 1/3 as much.

Something clearly didn't work with the AIO, but I can't put my finger on what.

Most intriguing... Were you confident that there wasnt any air effecting the CPU block.?

I shook it a few times, tilted the PC, etc, but one can never be sure with a closed loop.

Yeah, especially when you assemble your pc, it's love to use it lmfao. I've had Dark Rock 4 Pro, and I never want something like that again lol.

I guess I'm in the minority with this opinion but I wouldn't want a borg cube in my PC/to look at. 'not a fan of big tower coolers/bricks in general'
Tho it still looks better than those Noctua coolers I will give it that.
no, after Dark Rock Pro 4 I don't want this size again too. And, plain black is always better than these "green dot", it's same mess as Noctua sh*t colors lol.

The looks are subjective as always, but I can't disregard how much better the Dark Rock 4 performs with my 7800X3D compared to the Silent Loop 2 (I still haven't figured out why).

Thanks for this! I've been waiting for the NDA to lift on the Assassin IV for such a long time. It honestly looks and performs wonderful, I wonder how it would perform with a 13900KS? I hope it's available soon!
So it's more or less on par with the D-15.
Features/aesthetics aside, that isn't all too impressive considering Thermalright is doing the same for sub $40.
Yeah, I'm in this boat. The price is unreasonably high. They're exactly as expensive as the NH-D15 where I live, and that's already an unreasonably high price. But at least noctua has a long documented history of really supporting their customers with stuff like new mounting brackets, and exceptional device longevity. Furthermore, as the review shows at the highest heat loads this doesn't even beat the D15; that wins on the noise normalized intel OC tests. The custom fan is also a downside; other competitors both cheap and expensive don't have that restriction. Gamer's Nexus also noted some kind of resonance noise on this model.

Between the identically priced noctua with that brand name premium, and almost as good much cheaper alternatives, I don't think this has a viable spot. Why buy this? even the cheaper DH15s is just barely behind and has the brand track record. Deepcool's own AS500 plus achieves the exact same performance (at high heat loads) at much lower price. And there are of course other competitors too. My current cooler is a really cheap deepcool, and I'm happy with it, but have since upgraded the rest of the system, so I could use something with a bit more power, but I'm passing on this option.

At this price, the Assassin IV seems pointless; it needs at least a 20$ discount. I guess the looks are potentially a saving grace for some; it does look more cleanly minimalist than many others?

Yup, price-wise makes sense to buy one of the higher end AK series or maybe even the Assassin III if you can get a good deal on it. This one looks the best tho

The price is too much for an air cooler. It’s over $140 here in Canada which puts it in nh-u12a and nh-d15 chromaxx black price. Even the LT720 is priced at this price. It’s also more than double the price of the assassin iii and as500 plus

I'd be fine with the lack of Thermalright reviews... Keeps them out of focus, and not as popular... and keeps pricing down :D

CPU air cooler manufacturers have been killing it these past couple of years. This one basically matches most 280mm AIOs without the clutter or the fear of leakage.

Makes one wonder what kind of a beast the new NH-D15 will be!

are this cpu air cooler is very good for pc gaming with i7 14700K ??
