Diablo 3 Launch Overloads Servers

Since when is Originality a defining characteristic of success fullness of a video game. I judge a game on whether or not it's fun or not.

Creating successful games, and creating "genre defining" and "life changing" games are two different things. You said Blizzard created genre defining and life changing games, the don't, at least not recently.

And Ubisoft has had way more successful and down right good games than Blizzard has.

You mention the failing retailer like you mentioned who the failing retailer was previously. You did not and it reads funny.

He did mention the failing retailer.

Blizzard is helping out Australian fans who pre-ordered from GAME, after the failing retailer said it wouldn't honour their orders but would keep their money.

GAME is the name of the retailer.

Blizzard have already trained their sheeples to wait whenever they "launch" something, so I guess no one is complaining as loudly as they should. Always on DRM is a direct result of the marketplace, or rather, they used the marketplace as an excuse to put an always on DRM, preferably if not many notices.

Wait, Diablo III has always on DRM?! How has no one bitched constantly about this yet?! Wait, and the servers went down on the first day preventing people from playing?!? How has this not turned into a shit storm? Oh, they aren't Ubisoft.

Ubisoft or not, they aren't getting my money. Phuck their DRM.

They don't care if you buy it or not, faramir. They're going to make a jillion dollars either way.
2 million pre-orders and totally overwhelmed servers on launch day is a good sign for them (even if it will tick people off for a little while).

Lol, The Pirate Bay was also down for a bit - wonder if there's any link there *trollface*

Well Blizzard are becoming more and more like Apple... so I am going far from them.

with RMAH, they absolutely have to have it as always on. think about the uproar when someone figures out how to hack/bot items and starts making a living off of it. (not saying it won't still happen, but it will be much harder)

not gonna happen. you can't play the game without an authenticated account and key. even if you hack one, you have to be on their servers to play.

Private servers?

You haven't been around pirating very long have you? They will hack the game to allow single player without connecting to Blizzard's servers.

All you need to run Diablo III offline is a crack. I believe it took 3 weeks to make one for StarCraft II.

I played the Beta, but haven't decided if I want to buy it yet or not.

I think either way, I will use the crack, because I don't want the Beta issues to repeat themselves - constant disconnections playing single-player.

I think the public outcry is smaller because people respect Blizzard more.
I just hope it doesn't come to a point where there is no outcry, because I can't stand always-on DRM.

It's because Activision is forcing them to be. They want sales and don't want to risk having hackers having their way with the game for free. It sucks that it has always-on DRM, but like Fourstaff said, they used the marketplace as an excuse to put always-on DRM and how things have been progressing over the years (ex. SOPA, SIPA, HIPPA, HIPPO, HIPPOPOTAMUS..
This is only going to get worse. So I say, whatever good games you have NOW that don't require it, I say KEEP them ;)

Diablo III : Lord of Errors

Private servers?

It would certainly take some time (and money for those who'll obviously setup the servers), but it's possible. As possible as WoW private servers.

Can you imagine paying the full price for the special edition by pre-order then rocking up at GAME only to find you cant get Diablo 3 or your money back.

Nice to see Blizzard is going to do something about that though.

I've been into GAME a few times, each time I ended up leaving then going to EB Games xD

I don't condone pirating on TPU.

Fixed. Dont imply ANYONE agrees with you here.

You have little knowledge about pirating games. :D

Yeah GAME sucks, Ive never bought something from them and now Im glad I didnt.

Well, Blizz are doing some stupid moves. I hope they correct themselves. Like the always on DRM, lack of LAN. They were genre defining in their early years.

As for now, a lot of people are disappointed with SC2- but I think it's fair to say it's not classic, but it's a great game that becomes better with every patch (and I am a big fan).

I still have this game on CD, the cover broke years and years ago but the CD itself is without a scratch, and it runs great on Win 7. You guys jelly?

Pirate the game and kick the DRM.

You're the reason why DRM exists. If no one pirated games, DRM wouldn't be necessary, but honestly, I have internet 98% of the time. If I don't have internet I think I can deal without a game with DRM or maybe actually go outside and enjoy the day or something. Honestly, Blizzard's DRM is pretty non-intrusive, it just requires you to be online. I don't think that is unreasonable, and if you don't like it, then don't buy the damn game and don't complain about it. No one is forcing you to by D3 and judging from so many of Blizzards' past releases, I'll calmly wait a week or two before I jump on that boat.

So if you do pirate software, then honestly, you have no right to talk, actually you should be shunned because you're the reason DRM exists.

Also, if you have a rare moment when you don't have internet, maybe its your queue to get off your computer and enjoy the day...

I own every Blizzard PC game released. I've enjoyed their games in the past, so D3 will be in the future. The beta kept me interested enough to want to at least finish the game.

What the hell? I bought diablo 1 and 2 on cd a little while ago and they dont run on win 7!! Yes I am jelly!

Mine is the original release, no DRM whatsoever. It works straight from the CD or when ripped to save some tear on the disk. Any copy-protection on the one you have?

ATT is to blame for the Diablo3 problems... they picked the worst backbone provider/hosting provider they could to partner with for this... They should have gone with level3 they are solid and awesome.

They prolly fell for a smooth salesmen's promise of having lower cost per util. and thought it would be cheaper then L3 so they went with it... only it will end up costing them 4x as much as L3 and have lower capacity.

ATT notes for hosting companies they can change the TOS at any time and you are agreed to using them for 2 year minimum contract duration. In order to get lower rates you must agree to changes that could screw you over in the end big time. This is another reason any reputable datacenters do not use them. They are a joke.

Good IP backbones:

level 3
twtelcom
abovenet
verizon
xo
cogent
HE
zayo

soooo many others they could have chosen that would give them outstanding service and better value and they choose the worst possible one.... yucckkkk....

bliz really doesn't know what they're doing...

I'm partnered with InetU hosting (very high end enterprise grade provider with NO NETWORK DOWNTIME)(they host pokemon.com, lands of america, CREDO action group, and Luby's websites as well as tons of others) They use level3, Abovenet, and Verizon and they do really really good with those 3.

If they would have went with InetU hosting then they would have not had any of these problems at all...

There are so many better hosting providers out there they could have chosen and they chose ATT of all places!!!! arrrg!

well blizzard enjoy it while it lasts!!

I hate to break it to you but TPU has an official stance against piracy. Doesn't matter if you agree with it or not. Post a link to pirated software or something AGAINST THE RULES and it will be deleted.

That good Diablo wiki is down too! I want to look at runewords for D2 and that site is the best garndabbit!

Now if only they had Aussie servers so my barbarian wouldn't keep teleporting back to where I started when I use leap, in fact just going down stairs seems to be a problem. :(
