Hey guys/gals rookie builder here, was wondering if the x470 gaming plus motherboard was the right choice? I have a 3700x, a rtx2070 super, and (2) 8gb Ram 3200mhz. Not fully understanding what pcpartpicker means by the x470 possibly needing a bios update? Will that effect my parts? I’m clueless

Two things...

1. it seems you already have the board, as your references to it are past tense. The choice has been made, all you can do now is try it ;)
2. As said above, without the right parts to begin with, flashing to allow for the 3700 could be a real pain.

It means you might need a Zen or Zen+ chip to perform a BIOS update if the board doesn't have the latest one. I've heard that AMD can provide loaner chips for updating the BIOS.

You will *only* need to flash the board if it has an older BIOS, Asus has a sticker they put on their boards to mark whether they have updated BIOS.

On the subject of the board itself, I know some people had a lot of trouble with particularly memory OCing on some B450/X470 boards from MSI. But I can't find anything specific on which boards are affected by that.

i got no problem ocing memory on my b350 msi, with cheap klevv dual 3kmhz, even push the limit to 3800mhz 1.37v, but i wont recommend to setup as dailyuse:)
its all about memory chip type tho, samsung or hynix is best for me:)

I was referring to those boards with 3000 series capable BIOSes. It was reportedly due to restrictions in the BIOS capacity.

If I try to adjust timings on my X470 Gaming Pro, it doesn't POST. I can change the clock speed fine, but if I adjust the timings, it doesn't work.

After digging around on the product page and specs, datasheets etc it looks like it supports M-Flash which is USB bios update and even if it needs a bios update for Ryzen 3000 you should be able to do this without a Ryzen 1k/2k CPU and just using a USB flash stick. MSI and ASUS have the best BIOS write back support, Asrock and Gigabyte are pretty much non-existent.

2700X isn't a bad chip if you decide to get one, running one right now and does great as a daily.

I have that exact motherboard, and i'm really happy with it ... EXCEPT MSI didn't bother to issue BIOS updates for it. Still on 1.0.0.3AB BIOS from July (2019-07-25) :(
Most, if not all other brands updated their X470 lineup with the new 1.0.0.3ABBA BIOS that lowers idle temperatures and gives higher boost clocks. My CPU idles at 48ºC and is fed with 1.45V with just one tab open in Firefox and nothing else running.

Seems MSI reads TPU forums, update showed up today, although the date is 2019-09-26 ??? It wasn't on the support page for X470 Gaming plus yesterday.
Going to flash my BIOS now, fingers crossed.
Cross fingers :). I saw that the M7 AC got the ABBA version today/yesterday, dated yesterday.
