I just Read an interesting article on directx 10 here at Tweaks R Us. It talks abou SM 4.0 and also about not supporting backwards compatability.

if it dont support backwards compatibility it will the first new directx that dosnt.. it also sounds a long way away cos it wont work on any grfx cards we can buy today..

still some are sayng microsoft have lost the plot.. ??

trog

ps.. and dont forget chaps.. vista will be here soon.. dont buy that new card until it is.. he he he

yeah im actually waiting to buy anything till i see the "6-8x" inprovement, cuz i dont believe it, but if it is ima drop some $ to get that, ima start saving now cuz new tech. is always expensive

it microsoft is stupid enough the release a new operating system that wont work on existing machines.. including directx 10.. they really have lost the plot.. vista looks like a disaster in the making..

trog

It would be totally ridiculous not to support everyone's hardware as Direct X is mainstream. I think it's a big lie. It's like saying Windows XP doesn't support 16bit, or Radeon X800 can't play Direct X 7 games. It's just plain nonsense.

It's like saying Far Cry is SM 3.0 only. Or that FEAR doesn't play on a P3 with a Radeon 8500.
All big lies...

Probably DX10 will be the "secret anti-piracy" protection for the already postponed VISTA he he he ;). It will simply not work on every known hardware  .

wouldn't make sense for micrsoft to do that, they'd lose too much money. which if you all don't know is what it's all about lol.
lets put it this way cause you guys seem to be under the wrong impressions. world wide 80% of the home computers are celeron based with intel extreme graphics (either 1 or 2) (or older intel based setups) another 2% is server based. next 8% world wide have older amd setups (athlon xp, sempron 462 and before) that leaves around 10% with an 754 sempron or better and 775 celeron d or better. see a pattern?
the extremist market isn't where the money is, too many competitors for too small a share of the market. being so vista MUST support those older setups for microsoft to even make a profit! otherwise they'll be stuck with a 4% market that can actually afford the directx 10 upgrade based on manufacturing cost, development costs, and marketing costs, they'd be losing money by releasing vista.

seem like something microsoft would do to you? based off the fact that windows xp will run in classic mode on a pentium 2 400MHZ system. I think not.

Yogurt_21 probably you are completely right but we are just joking with Microsoft.

oh lol sorry.

well, most computers will be able to "run" windows vista on "classic mode" but you will need all the new stuff to run it to its full potential

Yeah it sounded far out when i read it to it was probably something microsoft was going to put out for april's fools or something.

Either that or they are going to continue to upgrade directx 9 and keep directx 10 for the extremists to be able to run their stuff on better machines.

Or that FEAR doesn't play on a P3 with a Radeon 8500.

I would hate to see that grainy slide show!!!!!!!!

You dudeZ R laughin eh? I got one one my friends which has a P3 Tualatin 1.2Ghz on an ASUS mobo with a GF Ti4200, and a whoppin 384 megs of SDR and a ram bandwidth of less than 400megs/sec. Well FEAR, which is the most demanding PC game EVER on latest platforms runs flawlessly without ANY slowdowns.

Thos, you got to comprehend that he doesn't have shadows and various PS/VS 2.0/3.0 effects, water looks aweful with no reflections anywhere, no AA, no ANISO, 800x600.

Well he finished the game in 2 days!

You know it's like that dilema saying "it's not the car, it's who's driving it!".

They sound like a true gamer..just wish they had the FULL BLOWN experience ;)

"Its not that the car sucks but the driver feel asleep"

dx9 runs on your x850

for those who are still a little confused on the issue, Vista will have both Direct X9 and 10. You can run 10 assuming you have a card that can run it, but if not you can simply run DX9. All those snazzy Vista features and visuals will be available while running DX9, but you will not have the DX10 for gaming. :D

anti-vista, anti-dx10, anti-Gates

Its all a marketing ploy....just like office...office 2000 still works so why migrate, new features...pah....big deal......dx10 bite my shiny metal arse....until the games support it anyways...(shuffles off back under rock)

could someone clear something up with me? if i got a directx 10 card then could i still play directx 9 games if i didnt install directx 10 (backward compatible?), also anyone have a release date or estimate on vista as directx 10 only comes with vista (correct?)

hardware directx and software are two different things. software dx10 is the instruction set or maximum that can be output to the video card. that is why directx is backward compatable with everything before it. it just disables the things the video card doesnt support.
hardware directx is quite the same. the dx version on the card is the max it can display such as dx9. if i dx10 game is running on vista it will simply be disabled to dx9 capacity for any current video card.

Currently installing Microsoft Directx 10...
Please wait while we search through all of your internet logs to find your bank account details and send all of you money to Microsoft.... :twitch:
