Do I have a defective motherboard?

Just build my first PC. When I went to turn it on nothing but the blue standby light comes on.

have you recheck the cables, did you miss something?
Try to turn it on without ram, does it beep?
If beep your board is ok
what about the fan? Spinning or not?
If spinning the power is ok

Nothing is spinning at all. Will try turn on without Ram.

Double check ALL power connections leading to the motherboard. especially the 4/8 pin 12v. Also try post testing the stuff outside the case.

anyways, its supposed to not do anything when first turned on. click reset.

and give more details. fill out your system specs!

Jump the mobo's pwr on header with an eyeglass screwdriver.

Yup, touch the 2 together but be ginger, doesn't take any force to make a connection. One other thing to check, your switch on the power supply. Make sure its in the on position.

yes, if that doesnt work then unplug the PSU from the motherboard completely and hot jump it by connecting the green wire to the black wire like in this picture

Mmk checked psu power switch? If so, then jump the power supply as an example as brandon posted. If that doesn't power on then defective psu, report back with your findings.

What the pic is explaining, grounding out the pwr on relay to the power supply forcing it to start supplying power and turn on. Essentially kicking on the psu's fan. If you have a LED fan with a 4 pin molex, hook it up and if it lights up then psu is not the problem.

The hotwire worked, and the fans turned on. Burned through a wire that was touch the heatsink on the CPU fan though.

Wait what? No offense but common sense should have told you to disconnect everything that is connected to the power supply. I mean not trying to rub salt in the wounds or anything.

The CPU fan? or do you have a fan plugged into another header?

Also, if you didnt remove the 4/8pin CPU power plug from the motherboard when you tested the PSU then yes i would say it may be fried
