and according to Tom low end/mid range cards don't come with 2x CF bridge connections well that's just bollocks my HIS HD5770 comes with two
As does mine, however the HD 6770 only has one. Low-end/mid-range cards used to have two connectors, but now CF is either done trough the PCI-e lanes or with just a single connector.

It depends. Two higher end cards on 1920x1200 or lower? Nope. But hell yeah it's "worth it" you can slap two low-mid cards in for $300 that can outperform a $500 single card in many scenarios, for example. Scaling and drivers are improving all the time too. No difficulties here either with my two 6850s.

yeah it just goes to show it's not the age of the card but the version of it I've got two HIS HD5770's 1 is v1.0 the other is v1.2

v1.0 = 2 x CF bridge connectors
v1.2 = 1 x CF bridge connector

so Tri CF is doable for me :rockout:

I was debating buying a second card when I buy a 120Hz monitor...

it will all come down to what BF3 requires.

The next gen cards will be here around the same time so you probably be better off to sell your card and go with 1x new gen card.

I have a feeling theres gonna be a big jump in performance with the next gen, with more people going multiple monitors and using 3D/120Hz monitors etc.

I refuse to fork out big bucks for big projects, I am still learning so perhaps in the future I will build something epic and name in brian.
My gut feeling is a 6950/70 or a 580 will be adequate for any game that comes out over the next 2 years. Software is behind hardware I believe. the reason I say this is because too many issues and problems still occur with software conflicting with hardware....so this will be the case me thinks. Slow progress, software = time and money...lots of it and theres not so much to go around or be made...until something innovative happens. Perhaps when computers can design sofware around the hardware better (and visa versa) then things will become much more impressive and interesting... I think the whole software/hardware thing needs a whole new re-think. Why arent computers designing software yet instead of someone sat in a chair in front of it?

The only reason software still conflicts with hardware as you put it is because of poor coding by half arse devs doing poor ports of console games

I'm an aspiring engine developer but so far I know the programmers of the engine dont have to take care with crossfire themselfs, there is a reason that API's like OpenGL and DirectX are there. So you can program easely without thinking too much about hardware otherwise you would have to program for nvidia and amd seperatly infact you have to program for all different GPU's seperately.

so that'll be why some games require multiple hundreds of MB's of patches before they work right yes... As I said Console to PC is not a good way to do things if your planning on an multi platform release coding it for PC first then port it to console would probably have less problems

also I've had less trouble getting an old DOS game working under win7 x64:eek: than some newer games

unlikely. from what I here, delays put next gen at early next year.
