Doom doesn't look so good as screenshots

I am using Vulkan API at Doom(2016) game. Every graphics settings are at maximum. But the game doesn't look nice as official screenshots or trailer videos. I tweaked sharpness and film grain settings, i set these min and max. but i can't see the same quality.

No,it doesn't bother me much but i wonder if they downgraded the game before release or they just faked screenshots.

well some game had that ... like The Witcher III, altho my DOOM looks nice enough that i would not care if they did (tho it look like the official screenshot, although not using Vulkan atm ) i wouldn't call that false advertising since it's a product that can change between teaser and release (also most vanity screenshot are not situational of what you get in the game... try to do the same shots ingame while staying still and trying to not die :laugh: furthermore when the action kicks in you can't notice details like you would on screenshots.)

Maybe it's what your taking screenshots with and the detail captured from the start. Although could be just what others have said too.

And no i don't think it's false advertising,, think of it like a singer. As long as the original was used it's all above board how ever deceitful it may sound.

I'm guessing most of the screenshots were done with nvidia card at 4k res and on top of that they used Ansel/sweetfx to take the shots.

It might seem like false advertising but you can achieve that quality with a few tools like sweetfx etc.

The reason your screenshots don't match what's posted in the press releases or other people's screenshots is because they (Bethesda) is using a special built-in screenshot feature (can't think of the name right at the moment.)

Said feature pauses enemy or weapon animation etc. allowing you to move/pan, focus, and control the camera view. I tried searching for the name so I could point you in the right direction but I'm on my smart phone at work it's making it difficult.

It is called photo mode, it is pretty neat!

What AA techique are you using. If is FXAA or TXAA it blurs the image like crap. Use the last one TXSSAA, doesn't use that much resources anyways and looks best.

What resolution are you playing at? The sceenshots you're comparing to look a lot sharper and detailed in my eyes, those other screenshots could be a higher resolution?

They either had Quad-fire or Quad-sli, or rendered the individual scenes on another platform. They sure do look beautiful, particularly with HDR and depth of field.

They probably used super sampling or very high resolutions (4k or more) for it that's why. But could also be other reasons like different settings simply.

Note: not all settings are accessible in the options menu some of the uber settings are just accessible via config.cfg or console. I'm talking very very high settings here that are so extreme that they just hide them from normal users because they couldn't use them anyway.

Official screenshots are photoshoped from A-Z, so don't expect the game to look like those. No game looks like screenshots devs provide to the public, and don't get me even started on the trailers :(

Thanks everyone who replied and informed me. Bullshots are used by many developers for years but i don't know why the gamers don't react this fraud enough.

For example Far Cry 3. We won't see this visual quality before 2020(maybe 2025, because hardwares can't evolve fast as previous years)



@alucasa I don't wanna refund the game because of this(and i can't refund it because i played the game hours); the game has a lot of fun and i very enjoyed it.

I noticed but forgot to mention about it: The game's cutscene visual quality (which rendered real time with in game engine) and in-game graphics quality difference is too high. It looks like Rise of the Tomb Raider in that way, RotR's cutscenes are insanely beautiful and i never understand how the game rendered these cutscenes in real time.



These scene is real time rendered (if it's not it has to be 30 fps) and looks far more better than in-game graphics.

2020 or later graphics will be way better than these, I expect photo realistic or related at least.

Doesn't really bother me to be honest. A RPG maker game with good story can be just as good as those awesome looking games.

Good visual is, for me at least, only for start and few hours into it. Once (or if) you get hooked, visuals start to matter less.

I noticed but forgot to mention about it: The game's cutscene visual quality (which rendered real time with in game engine) and in-game graphics quality difference is too high. It looks like Rise of the Tomb Raider in that way, RotR's cutscenes are insanely beautiful and i never understand how the game rendered these cutscenes in real time.



These scene is real time rendered (if it's not it has to be 30 fps) and looks far more better than in-game graphics.

the game doesn't have to do much of anything during cutscenes. all the actions are predetermined. thus they can focus on optimizing quality.

Screenshots are undoubtedly adjusted for black level / gamma and sharpness by marketing. I've always noticed that, it's common. You think they just hit the screenshot button and tada they're done?

To be precise we already have photo realistic quality partly, racing games 80-100%, other games 50% or more I'd say. By 2020 or later it's easily done.
