I'm considering downgrading the system in my specs. I'm in need of cash and this is one of my options. I mainly just want it to be able to run overwatch and other games of that caliber at medium or so settings around 1080p.

I am not too familiar with current hardware, so my question is.. Am I even able to downgrade? Ive known that min/max system reqs that they put on the game boxes can be deceiving. So how do I find out how low I can go with a downgrade?

Probably your best bet is to see if you can get some cash out of that 1060 and get a 1050Ti, or find an older video card for cheap. Honestly though, that's not going to net you much cash, and later on you'll be disappointed you sold it (been there, done that.)

I am assuming you want to sell some of your current components. The problem there is no one will want to pay new prices for used parts.

I am also assuming we are talking about the system listed in your system specs. The only thing I see in there that might get you some money is that 27" curved screen monitor.

You have about the minimum to run 1080P well.

IMHO, you have a wonderfully balanced system, and it would be such a shame to mess with it, but..., life. Based on the recommended system requirement of a GTX 660, if you could find someone who would trade you:
~$225 + gtx 950
~$200 + GTX 960 (NOT a 4GB)
~$150 + GTX 1050 Ti
~$175 + GTX 1050
I'd think that downgrading below these levels would be ill advised. (I've stayed away from AMD because of mining)

You can drop to a core i3 and swap the gpu out to a 1050ti or amd equivalent.

Minimum specs just means what it will run ok with at lowest details/resolution smoothly, recommended specs are to run at medium details smoothly.

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.

^ this

you're not going to get much for a 2500k... you might be able to ebay that system for $800-$1000 to some poor schmuck and pick up this:

https://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-...8&qid=1524863925&sr=8-8&keywords=hp+gaming+pc

or maybe this:

https://www.amazon.com/CYBERPOWERPC...rd_wg=rFr28&psc=1&refRID=8D9HNTZV3MDHCJP5HY4N

but honestly it won't net you much.

The whole system would probably sell for more than the pieces since usually only people that know how to build are looking at the parts. The only real way to get money out of it is to overcharge for the custom OC, and hope someone buys it for their kid that's just getting into gaming or something.

does not seem right to rip your sys apart.

Tbh depends on how cash strapped are you, is gaming a priority even after the cash crunch is resolved? I'd suggest sell the 1060 while you can & wait for a few months for new dGPU, again depends on how much cash you want. Right now I'd wager the 1060 could still net a decent price, six months down the line, with Volta or Ampere, you'll probably not get the same price for it.

Totally not worth it on your current rig unless you sell the whole thing as a package deal, and even then, a Sandy Bridge (old platform) won't net a good return on investment and what you're losing is a well balanced system with decent performance in a time when building new rigs is pricy.

So its a big no-no in every respect IMO. You sell this rig now for maybe 450-500 bucks, 600 if lucky, and you can't even get a low-end super budget alternative in return. So for a break even, you'd simply get yourself a massive downgrade if you ever buy something to replace it. The only valuable part is the 1060, and it also carries the entire gaming experience. That may be the only option here, go IGPU or put a 1030 in to replace it and make gaming absolute torture.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I am considering all. Mostly if im not able to get a decent gpu + 75-150$ for my 1060 I will probably keep things as they are.

If you need money and have electronic devices to spare, have you considered putting them up for rent? Its good business, just make sure you're up front about 'you break it you pay it'. Its a nice temporary solution for a temporary problem without 'losing' per se. (Not necessarily your PC, but other things)

Thanks for the advice. Not much right now to do anything with.
